         <description><![CDATA[<div>La Dr. Betancur nació y se crió en Medellín, Colombia, donde terminó sus estudios de pregrado en lingüística y literatura. En el 2002 se mudó a vivir a España donde obtuvo su maestría en análisis literario y literatura comparada de la Universidad de Granada. Durante los últimos quince años ha vivido y trabajado en los Estados Unidos.<br><br>La profesora Betancur se graduó del programa doctoral en español de la Universidad de Arizona, con un énfasis en literatura hispanoamericana contemporánea. Actualmente trabaja como Lectora para el Departamento de Español y Portugués, donde es además la directora asistente del programa de estudios en línea. Como instructora, ha tenido la oportunidad de enseñar todas las clases del programa básico y de las áreas de especialización menor en español, tanto en formato tradicional, como en formato híbrido y completamente virtual. Parte fundamental de su trabajo actual es preparar y acompañar a instructores que están trabajando por primera vez enseñando español en modalidad completamente virtual.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Alejandrina Gallardo is a first-generation college student.  She has been teaching Spanish at the secondary level since 2013. Mrs. Gallardo is a former elementary teacher. She taught in Mexico for six years before moving to Arizona, where she continued her education.</div><div>             Mrs. Gallardo gained her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the Benemérita y Centenaria Escuela Normal del Estado de Sonora “Profesor Jesús Manuel Bustamante Mungarro” in Hermosillo, Sonora. She later started her master’s in general Education through IDESA. Alejandrina moved to Arizona in 2007, where she started working as a pre-school teacher at the International School of Tucson. After three years, she started working as an editor and columnist for the Arizona Bilingual Newspaper. Also, during the same year, she started doing voiceovers professionally for the Hispanic market of Arizona. Alejandrina is a long-life learner that enjoys challenging herself and learn new things every day. In 2011, she decided to go back to school and started a Post-Baccalaureate in Secondary Education through Pima Community College. Before graduated, Mrs. Gallardo was offered a position as a Spanish teacher at Catalina Magnet High School. It was her first job at the secondary education level. In 2013, Mrs. Gallardo started teaching at Sunnyside High School, and in 2017 she was named department Lead of the World Languages Department. In the same year, Mrs. Gallardo completed a Business Certificate Program through the Eller College of Management, University of Arizona.</div><div>           Mrs. Gallardo possesses a real sense of community and enjoys working with students and the entire community. In the past, she was a sponsor of some school clubs, such as Spanish Club, Finding your Voice, GLEE, and Noche de las Estrellas and from time to time, she runs an after-school program for students that stay after school and need a safe place to be while waiting for their parents.</div><div>             Alejandrina graduated in October 2020 from Grand Canyon University with a Master of Educational Administration degree. She keeps attending as many professional development training as possible. Every year, she helps the Spanish and Portuguese Department of the U of A organize and deliver a workshop for Arizona’s language teachers.  </div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Jhonatan Henao-Muñoz is a M.A. Candidate in Hispanic Linguistics, and M.A. Candidate in French Linguistics and Second Language Learning and Teaching. His research focuses on the acquisition of Romance languages as Second and Third Languages, Corpus Linguistics, Translation in Language Teaching, and TELL. Currently, he is the PI of Translation in the Second Language Classroom study, a project awarded with the National Center for Interpretation Research Fellowship of the University of Arizona, that inquires actors and factors in the language classroom, both instructors and students, and the syllabi and textbooks, in order to identify attitudes, beliefs, and practices on translation in teaching and learning. http://profejhon.tk/  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My name is Brenda Lara, and I work for the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona as a Spanish instructor and as an assistant to the Critical Service Learning and Outreach Program. I completed my B.A. and M.A. in Hispanic Literature from the University of Arizona, and  I have taught online and face-to-face classes since 2015. My main objective is to encourage and inspire students to learn other languages and promote the importance of community service as part of academic growth.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dr. Lillian Gorman is an Assistant Professor of Spanish Sociolinguistics and U.S. Latina/o/x Cultural Studies and the Director of the Spanish as a Heritage Language Program in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. She is also affiliated faculty in the Second Language Teaching and Acquisition (SLAT) and Social, Cultural, and Critical Theory (SCCT) Graduate Interdiscipilinary programs.  Her research interests center around issues of language and identity within U.S. Latina/o/x communities and in U.S. Latina/o/x popular culture. Her interdisciplinary work also focuses on heritage language pedagogy and its intersections with bilingual education.  Her essays have appeared in the edited volumes Transnational Encounters:  Music and Performance at the U.S. Mexico Border, Bilingual Youth: Spanish in English Speaking Societies, and Explorations in Ethnography, Language and Communication: Capturing Linguistic and Cultural Diversities.  She was recently awarded the University of New Mexico Center for Regional Studies Semester Scholar-in-Residence Award (2020) and the University of Arizona Hispanic Serving Institutions Fellowship (2019-2020).      <br><br></div><div>She graduated with a B.A. in Spanish and an M.A. in Southwest Hispanic Studies from the University of New Mexico where she was part of the university’s first class of Ronald E. McNair Scholars.  She graduated with her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Hispanic Studies with concentrations in Latina/o cultural studies and sociolinguistics and also served as the Assistant Director for UIC’s Spanish for Heritage Speakers Program.  She has worked in the field of Spanish as a Heritage Language for 17 years.  She previously developed and directed the Spanish as a Heritage Language Program and the Spanish for Heritage Learners Nicaragua Summer Immersion Program at New Mexico Highlands University. She has also served as faculty for the Summer Spanish Immersion Program for Bilingual Teachers at New Mexico Highlands University since 2006.  She actively promotes recruitment and retention of Latinas/os/xs in higher education and has worked with local and national Latino higher education organizations such as the USDA Hispanic Serving Institutions Office, HACU and the Tucson Hispanic Leadership Institute.  Dr. Lillian Gorman is a proud Chicana and Nuevomexicana from Albuquerque, New Mexico. <br><br></div>]]></description>
