The students have a hard time grasping the permanence of posting on the internet (snapchat, facebook live). They've grown up with this technology and they don't take the time to reflect on their thoughts before posting. The availability of technology is challenging, because students don't self regulate before making digital choices.

All of our districts use acceptable use policies, but very little is actually being taught to the students- especially at the elementary level. Goochland Public Schools does the most- librarians and RTIT will do lessons with the children. RTIT will push into classrooms to do lessons.

In the elementary schools, digital citizenship is mainly taught by the guidance counselor or in library. In the upper grades the standards are taught in health and guidance. Students, parents, and teachers have to sign an acceptable use contract. In the one-to-one schools, students sign a Chrome Book contract.
