The film stars Will Arnett as the voice actor for Batman and features other stars such as Ralph Fiennes known for his role as Voldermort in Harry Potter. The casting attracts a larger audience as it features well known comedic actors such as Will Arnett and attracts fans from the huge Harry Potter fan-base due to Ralph Fiennes. 

The Batman Lego Movie is a sequel to the original 2014 film The Lego Movie and will soon be followed by the release of The Lego Ninjago Movie being released later this year. These films all are a part of the propular and recognizable brand 'Lego' and have now become a film franchise. Franchise films especially action films that are part of a franchise gain the biggest audience in cinemas.

This was to attract the a larger audience from other films such as 'Suicide Squad' (2016) which was a very successful film earning $133,682,248 at the opening weekend whilst having a budget of $175,000,000. Suicide Squad boosted the popularity of DC characters like Harlequin and The Joker and this film plays on that popularity to attract fans of Suicide Squad. It also shows a change in the 'Lego' brand as it is the first film and 'Lego' product to not feature characters with the traditional yellow skin. This is to be able to represent the characters from other films such as The Joker more accurately.
