The process to creating my graphite drawing of my sister was first to create 3 pictures of the photo. You have to make the pictures a certain way so you can see the light and darkness and lightness of the picture well. You also have to do one in black and white so you can see what it would look like on your drawing. You also need a posterized picture so you can see the darkest and lightest areas of your photo. The next step is to make a grid on your picture then a grid scaled up onto your paper. When drawing a important factor is shading. If your shading isn’t correct then the drawing doesn’t look realistic.

Then for the drawing, I scaled the grid up to help draw the final. It was fun doing the graphite and being able to show detention of the face with shading and using light to represent the light spots. I think it is so cool how in the end it looked like an actual photo.

To create my self portrait I used 3 different pictures, one posterized, one black and white, and one normal picture. I drew a graph over my pictures and drew one lightly on a blank paper. I looked in each box and drew what I saw in each little box. As I went along I erased the graph until my picture was done. I did the same thing for my posterization painting, but instead of coloring and shading I painted in 4 different shades that I saw on my picture. It was fun making the self portraits and I'm happy with how mine turned out.

To create my self portrait, I used photoshop to size and crop my photo to the correct proportions. Then I printed out 3 different competitions, one normal, one black and white and one in posterized. Then I created a grid on the photos to help get the correct proportions when I got to the bigger scale, then I drew on a larger scale what I saw and did that twice one for my graphite and one for my monochromatic scale painting. I learned a lot from these projects, I learned how to scale up, how to define the shades, and how to shade and use graphite, along with that how to add detail in painting. I personally like the way I did my graphite, because its different, but still looks like me, and shows my style of art. This was a very fun project that I would love to do again.

For my graphite portrait, I worked with Ella and Mia. First we took our picture, then we used photoshop to edit it to get the lighting right. Then we made our grid. Once we were ready to draw, we each worked on our own face. We shaded last. I think it turned out well, and it was unique. For my monochromatic painting, first I selected my photo. Next i edited it, then made a grid and sketched my face. I then chose my color scheme, and started painting the lightest first. I did a different color a day. I liked the way it turned out, and am glad I chose the colors I did.

We took the picture of us with our hair flowing off the bench. Then, we used photoshop to edit the photo. We all worked around one paper to complete the portrait. I think it turned out good overall.

Monochromatic Portrait:
I used a past picture of myself in my monochromatic painting. I edited it and printed it out. First, I drew the lines where the colors changed. Then i came up with my monochromatic scale. I used white, light blue, blue, and navy. I then painted in each section. I went back and added smaller details when I was finished. I think it turned out good but I wish I would have spent more time on the shape/outline of my face.

Graphite Drawing: After being done with both projects I've determined that using graphite was easier than the paint, i think that was because it was easier to use shading techniques and change/altar my drawing. One of the hardest factors in this project was definitely choosing a photo. When altering my photo in Adobe Photoshop i cropped it made the photo black and white (i also printed my posterization one). I think that i used shading the most, to create depth in my drawing, it also turned out kinda abstract in the end but i'm pretty okay/happy with my end product.
In order to make my Self Portraits I had to print out two photos with adobe photoshop and make the lines or graph.
monochromatic painting: the monochromatic painting was a lot harder than the graphite drawing because I'm not as good a painter. I used the photo to decide where I painted the similar colors, I chose orange and blue because no one else did that color and I wanted to be original. I had to make some filler colors to put by the other colors so it would look blended. overall this part of the project was definitely a lot harder for me than the graphite drawing.

I also used the blender to blend my drawing together so it give a better feel that it is all moving together. It was fun to try and create a more realistic picture.

To create the monochromatic project I used 5 different shades of blue to give of the shaded effect. For both of the portraits, we drew grid lines so we knew which part to draw/color. Afterwards, we erased them. It was somewhat difficult making the portraits look exactly how the picture looked originally, but I tried my best. What I could have done differently, is brainstorm different and easier ways to do certain parts of the portrait, rather than to stress and fall behind. This project was really fun, and I’m content with the end results of both of my portraits!

To create the graphite drawing I found a photo of myself that I liked and printed it in color, black and white, and posterized. After doing the basic sketch of my face I shaded the darker spots with a graphite pencil and a blender. To create the monochromatic I looked at the posterized photo and sketched the harsher shading lines. When I was done with that I painted it the color of my choice and go lighter. I am kinda happy with how they turned out but I think it could have looked better. If I did it again I would have tried to not fall behind as much.
