An example of these negative health effects is the existence of “diesel death zones.” Diesel death zones refer to areas in which exhaust fumes from diesel-powered trucks, trains, and boats are especially prevalent. These fumes are both environmentally damaging and dangerous for humans to breathe, causing health problems such as asthma, lung cancer, reproductive issues, and some types of cancer.

These “death” zones are not unique to the Long Beach community, however. Once loaded onto awaiting semi-truckers, shipping containers are then transported across the Los Angeles and Inland Empire regions to a number of rail yards, airports, and distribution centers. At each stop on a shipping container’s journey, the diesel engines of their transport vehicles sit idle, sometimes up to hours at a time, waiting to move each container to its next mode of transportation. This process results in the creation of countless diesel death zones throughout the greater LA area, affecting thousands of residents daily. 

The logistics business is a multi-billion dollar industry built on the plight and suffering of those living near major distribution hubs. As companies such as Amazon take in record-breaking profits, the communities they operate in and employ suffer irreversible consequences due to toxic work and living conditions.

Currently the owners of this farm are battling massive land development plans throughout Ontario county, threatening to interfere on their land. In January of 2021 the city of Ontario was notified of a  proposed plan––The South Onttario Logistics Center Plan––to buy and develop 5.4 million square feet of land bordering Amy’s Farm. On March 1rst when the Ontario City Council voted on the plan, over 1,000 people gave public comment on opposition.

             The primary issue facing Ontario’s residents from greenhouse emissions is global warming. Ontario’s transport sector significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions that adversely affect the residents living in Ontario within the inland empire. The public transportation systems of the Greater Toronto Area have more demand because its population is sparse. An increase in greenhouse emissions in the atmosphere has led to a warming effect on the climate. Subsequently, global warming has increased ozone concentration and ultimately led to poor air quality. Ontario’s residents suffer from multiple cases of heat waves that produce adverse respiratory effects. These heat waves are also the leading cause of infectious diseases that thrive in warmer temperatures. Due to this, Toronto has faced various outbreaks and has become a danger zone due to increased global warming (Environment and Climate Change Canada, 2021). Heatwaves have also caused hyperthermia and heatstrokes in several Ontario residents, especially the vulnerable. 

          The higher temperatures have led to increased heat-stress mortality for older people, especially those predisposed to diseases. Heightened global warming has affected climate change which influences food production. The loss of food production has been significant, with the rising population increasing drought conditions and resulting in water shortages. Ontario’s residents have to deal with sudden food shortages as farmers swiftly work to deal with new weather patterns to produce consistently. The region has been experiencing extreme weather conditions like storms and floods with increased global warming. Global warming has diminished natural systems in Ontario, like poor water quality and degraded soils. These have, in turn, affected the living standards and quality of Ontario residents as resources have been significantly reduced. Global warming in Ontario has decreased the services that ecosystems provide for its people. The population has suffered from uncomfortable temperatures and has canceled various outdoor activities due to new weather changes.

Industrialized nations primarily cause air pollution. In San Bernardino, CA, the mining industry, transport, and vehicle exhaust add to most synthetic compounds and particles in the air.  Research shows that Cardiovascular disease is the most significant influence on human mortality rates commonly seen in areas experiencing various forms of pollution in the county.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) records that the death of one to four people in the United States is brought about by coronary illness consistently and is the primary source of death. Scientists have researched the impacts of contamination on human well-being to grasp the fundamental reasons for coronary disease. The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment recorded pollution levels in San Bernardino and observed pollution as the dominant cause of CVD. Additionally, there was a record of financial models, for example, poverty, identity, and health factors. Asthma, low birth weight, and CVD are among the health factors caused by air pollution.  

Research focuses on a specific cause of air pollution which often submit co-pollutants with varying effects on human health to guide the environmental policy. For instance, smoke from fierce blazes contains co-poisons, including nitrogen dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide, and aldehydes (Racho, 2020). Airborne particles that are either liquid or solid are gotten from humans and regular exercises in San Bernardino. An example is the PM2.5 from traffic or fuel combustion and the industry. The most hurtful PM2.5 is from vehicle discharges, tire wear, and the copying of biomass, which are closely associated with cardiovascular diseases.

In a nutshell, airborne particles are the main culprits of cardiovascular effects of air pollution on human health. The multiple sources emitted are smaller and can penetrate the body's vital organs. The particles cause inflammation and oxidative stress within circulatory systems.

Mining and manufacturing are the historically industrial processes leading the reasons for soil contamination. Modern regions have more elevated levels of minor components and natural foreign substances because of the purposeful and unexpected deliveries from modern cycles directly into the climate, including the soil (Eugenio, 2021). Corona, a major city in the Inland Empire with a high rate of development, and diversified economies that require extensive resource extraction, agriculture, and manufacturing sectors, results in thousands of polluted sites.

In Corona, California, stone, cement construction sand, and gravel were produced mainly in 2019 and valued at more than 1billion USD. A significant measure of waste, particularly on location, is disposed of by the mining industry. Lead and Zinc are as well released from mining activities. Deserted mines are a significant soil contamination issue in Corona.

Waste from metal mining is amassed in unregulated landfills and surface stores, which expanded by 35% somewhere between 2007 and 2017. The mining area causes 96%of the lead, 87% of Zinc dumped into the dirt, and 42% of hard and fast grams of dioxins from the mineral metal extraction. Around 1.72 billion kg of pollutants is delivered into the dirt in Corona, California. Soil addresses the biggest beneficiary of the foreign substances produced to the climate.

It is widely recognized that soil enables and sustains life on earth. Soil provides the services necessary for the well-being of humans due to its natural process within its matrix and its interaction with the biotic and abiotic soil components. Soil contaminants enter the food chain and cause disease to people since they are presented to the pollutants at explicit times. Individuals with prior diseases are more exposed to dirtied soil since most people keep up with their practices and food culture, for instance, geophagists.
