5AL 2022/23 dealing with the many dangers - consequences and impact - of "a single story"... and organising convincing essays. by Ms Patrizia Malausa

Current issues - in and through Literature - are always a paramount topic for discussion! During our English classes, we dealt with one of the most renowned women-writers currently working as a novelist, Nigerian author Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who made us reflect on some important aspects related to the most urgent topical issues and how we can find some possible solutions..
In the speech we analysed, Ms Adichie insists on “the danger of a single story”, explaining some main points:
what ‘single stories’ are and how they are formed, their main consequences, why ‘single stories’ are created in all cultures and traditions, why we should always reject ‘single stories’ as soon as we become aware of them... This was the starting point to our deep reflections, followed by critical analysis and sythesis, evaluation and creation...

The author’s speech spreads awareness of how much our society is "poisoned" by single stories: in order to reclaim our free humanity, we have the duty to open ourselves to the stories of others and make our minds open and flexible in a complex, multifaceted, globalised world.
