One thing we learned is understanding the relevance and influence of numeracy through social practices and cultural-historical activity. It is important to be aware of this when teaching students esp. those from diverse backgrounds.
A question we have is how young should we start teaching financial numeracy - should this be introduced in preschool as opposed to secondary as mentioned in the article.

We learned that numeracy goes way beyond the application of basic arithmetic operations to solve financial questions. It encompasses the whole spectrum of math concepts, procedures and instruments. Its situated at the intersection of financial education and mathematics education. We want to know more about how financial literacy is taught in Ontario classrooms / what it looks like in action.

How do you incorporate social-justice into financial literacy?

Numeracy as a social practice is a new term/concept that we had not considered. On page 14 they mention financial numeracy as a way of approaching the concerns of social implications.

One thing we learned is although financial numeracy is not a new topic, it is undervalued and understudied. A question is why is this not talked about more even though it is such a prevalent topic and important to daily life.
