~"Hanukkah commemorates a battle between Judah the Maccabee and the Greeks. Sometime throughout this battle, Jews sought to light a menorah, and realized there was only a single cruise of oil. They lit the menorah expecting it to last one day, but it ended up lasting 8 days. This miracle is the reason Hanukkah is celebrated for 8 months." -Hannah Polk

Hanukkah is one if the most popular and practiced Jewish holidays. Hanukkah lasts for eight days and begins on Sunday, December 22 and goes until Monday, December 30th. Gifts are exchanged throughout this time period. On the first night of Hanukkah one light from the right side of the menorah is lit, and this continues left to right for the following eight days. This celebration commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. Another popular celebration among the Jewish culture are bat mitzvah and bar mitzvah celebrations. Jewish children who are turning 12 and 13 years old use this celebration as a rite of passage to Judaism. Purim is a celebration that takes place from March 20th to March 21st also known as the 14th of Adar. Purim commemorates the liberation of the Jewish people
and their origin.
