Because of prison the main man of the documentary found DNA fingerprinting to help his case. He vividly described his journey to prove he didn't do what the system said he did.

As he read he found a newspaper article in 1988 on DNA fingerprinting and on how it was allowing so many innocent people out of prison. So he gave it a try because he knew he did not kill the women they said he did.

The reason why this documentary was made was to show how Nick had to go through all this harsh treatment from the cops and still managed to fight for his freedom. Nick went through treatments from getting beat for talking and almost dying due to hepatitis C from dental work. Yet, he knew that he hadn't killed that women and he waited years for the DNA to get tested until he had to say that he wanted to take the punishment for a crime he didn't commit. It took a judge to make sure they ruled out everything before signing the execution order.

The purpose of this documentary was to debunk all the ways the Northwestern journal students freed a killer. The students pointed fingers at a innocent man named Alstory Simon and used affidavits to make up a completely different story about the crime. They made the public think Alstory Simon was guilty even though it was far from the truth.

The Northwestern journal students didn't use all the information that was used in the initial case against Anthony Porter. Instead of using all six eye witnesses they only used one eye witness, and even then they made the eye witness tell a completely different story. They tried to paint a picture to the public that during the crime there was only one eye witness present, which is a lie.

The students made the crime scene different too. When the crime happen the bleachers where the shooting happen didn't have a canopy on top. But when they retraced the crime they claimed that the eyewitness wouldn't be able to see the crime due to a pole being in the way. But during the crime that pole wouldn't have been there because the canopies didn't exist the year it took place.

Alstory Simon's family made a plan to lie to the police saying he did it. His wife lied to the Northwestern students saying she was there when he shot those two people by the pool. His family lied thinking they could get another family member out of prison. When his family members started talking and making up stories about the event the police had to look into the stories. But its the fact that the students used those stories to put him in prison for a crime he didn't do

By the end of this documentary the audience learns of this twisted trial that ended up putting Alstory Simon in prison for a crime he didn't committed. The documentary showed how in the past this professor tried to free people who were guilty and in this case he used his students to succeed in trying to release Tony Porter of these murders. Its wrong how they manipulated the evidence and made the public think Mr. Simon guilty. They didn't tell the whole story or even a true story.

Both films have the same type of film style with a person being interviewed, but in Murder in the Park they had so many people interviewed. The documentaries also show the evidence used against the people to get them in prison. They have the person who was in prison tell their side and how they lived with what happened to them. I personally would watch Fear of 13 because you stick to one guy and it's not just a bunch of evidence thrown at you. I would rate Murder in the Park a 4 out of 10 because while watching the documentary goes through so many different people and there is so many different stories going on at the same time. I would then rate Fear of 13 a 8 out of 10 because you see how much Nick went through and still was able to preserve to find his freedom, you see the effect prison had on him.
