My name is Gigi. I took your Eng 101 course, and thoroughly enjoyed your class/teaching methods, so I decided to come back for Eng 102. I am still studying Secondary Ed with a concentration in History. I am really looking forward to getting to research that farther in my writings for this class.

Learning Outcomes

The learning outcomes that are most important for me are authorship and information literacy. I think the authors voice and language they use are the most important trait in getting your point to your readers. Therefore, I am excited to get to develop my authorship better, and use that to appropriately write on topics such as social injustice and inequality. As for information literacy, I know there will be a lot of research for this class, and that is something I still need to work on. I struggle with finding useful sources and integrating them into my writing, so I am looking forward to learning how to better do that.

Assignments/ Aspects of Course

I am really looking forward to getting to research and write about my major. There are endless positives and negatives to going into teaching, so I am excited to explore those. I don't think any research I do will steer me away from wanting to go into education. However, researching education will offer me new information I may not have known, and different viewpoints about teaching I may not have considered.

Late Work Policy

Each assignment has a 48 hour grace period after it is due. Extensions will not be offered at the 48 hours, so if one is needed, the student should reach out to Professor Emily beforehand. Also, being absent is not an excuse for late work. Rewrites for major assignments will be available, but if there is something going on where you cannot turn in your work, talk to Professor Emily about it.

AI Use

Students are allowed to use AI such as Chat GPT. However, it must be properly cited, and students are responsible for the accuracy of the information they include that AI provides.

Campus Resources

I have heard very wonderful things about the writing center that is offered at NSU. I have not taken any of my writing down there. However, as an Education/History major I do have a lot of writing assignments and papers, so I am going to make that a priority to check it out this semester. I also think it's important that our campus offers mental health counseling. Therapy can be so expensive, and school can be extremely isolating. Therefore, I think it's beneficial that these services are offered to anyone who might need them.
