plenty of water.
Where? It is a city of the Medina Region in north-western Saudi Arabia.
Who built? Hegra (Mada'in Salih) was built by the Nabataeans.
What is it? It was the principal southern city of the Nabataean kingdom.
When built? It was built more than 2,000 years ago.
Where built? It was historically located on the incense route.
Who used it? In the 13th century, the Muslims used this city built in the desert. 
What is it? Al-'Ula, the ancient walled city, is packed with mud-brick and stone houses.
What does the name mean? It means “firstborn” and in Latin “winged”.
Who were the Nabataeans? The Nabataeans were one among several nomadic tribes who roamed the Arabian Desert, moving with their herds to wherever they could find pasture and water.
Once a bustling civilization, these 800 tightly packed mud-brick and stone houses — parts of which are more than 2,000 years old — are now abandoned ruins, decaying in the hot desert sun.
