The Civil Rights Movement

During the Civil Rights movement, African Americans and other minorities had to fight for their rights. They fought for equality and non-segregated buses, churches schools, restaurants, and even water fountains. They would have protests on the streets and would hold signs with sayings like “black and white together” or “Black lives matter”. Others like Rosa Parks would protest an act. She sat in a seat in a bus and didn’t give it up for a white man. People of color had to prove to the rest of America that they were no different than whites. They had to convince everyone that whites were not superior, everyone is equal. Even after slavery was abolished, segregation was still greatly present in the USA. The civil rights movement was the end of segregation and the beginning of a time of equality. This movement of colored and some white people coming together to get equality broke through the pattern of racial segregation.
"Civil rights movement." Britannica School, Encyclopædia Britannica, 9 Apr. 2018. school.eb.com/levels/middle/article/civil-rights-movement/310706.
How the Civil Rights Movement Helped America Come of Age

The topic I chose is the civil rights movement. This really shows how America came of age. Before the civil rights movement, there was slavery everywhere. Black people were thought to be of a lower class than white people, solely because of the color of their skin. Slavery was abundant and so many black people died while being a slave. When someone was a slave, they were literally owned by another human. During the civil right movement, black people decided that enough was enough. They started boycotting the segregated bus system, held speeches in public, and revolted. They did this in a nonviolent way. After the civil rights movement, the rest of America realized that they needed to pass a law, banning segregation. That is exactly what they did.
