After that, we left the B&B and reached the school, where we put our luggage. At school we did the English level test and had a lesson taught by Sean, the manager of the school who works in the field of welfare and logistics. We were told what to do and not to do with our families, on the street and so on.
After having lunch around the city, Katherine, a teacher of the university of Chester, showed us the city centre and told us some useful information so that we could start to adapt to the city. She also told us some rules for the work we are going to do next week.
Around three p.m. we decided to go back to the city centre and had a wonderful trip on a boat. I really enjoyed myself and it was very relaxing. Then our host mother came to pick us up and took us home. We met her boyfriend Skinny, who is a Welsh chef (and has quite a difficult accent 😂), her daughter Leah and Skinny's son. They are very nice and made us immediately feel at home. Our host mother's boyfriend cooked us a delicious pasta with chicken and we also ate cheesecake and ice-cream. Now we are here in bed, tired but happy and excited to continue this adventure!

We were a little bit anxious but in the end we managed to get to school (a little bit late, though). At school we had two lessons with our teacher Paul, who divided us into groups and made us work together: first we had to organise a trip in Chester with a budget of £20 per person, then we read a script about a travel agency and had to continue it.
Then we had lunch and went shopping. I bought a T-Shirt at Primark, whereas Valentina bought some sunglasses.
In the afternoon we had an interesting meeting with a Chester guide, Ed, who was dressed up like a medieval man. He had a funny accent and was very cute and polite. He took us around the city and told us some historical information about the city. We visited the clock, the city walls, the Rows and saw the facade of the Cathedral. Afterwards, some of us went to see their work placement, while the others were free to have a walk around. I went shopping at The Rows and I also bought a book at Waterstone's (which is a shop I adore😍).
After that my housemates and I went back home by bus (and we didn't get lost😍😂).
Now we're here waiting to eat a delicious Mexican meal cooked by our father. Can't wait to go to Llangollen tomorrow! It must be wonderful!

In the first part we talked about cycling and improved our vocabulary about means of transport. In the second part we learnt about a "pitch" and had to come up with an idea in pairs (I was with Giada) to present to the class. With a budget of £10,000 we had to decide which projects to support and it was very funny and interesting. I'm really enjoying these pair work activities because we can exchange what we know and help each other with what we don't know.
After having lunch, we caught the bus to reach Llangollen, a city in North Wales. It's so green and beautiful! I didn't expect it to be surrounded by so much nature and I have to admit I was impressed (in a positive way absolutely). We walked along the canal, which has a horseshoe shape, and spent a wonderful time together (also thanks to the weather, which was a little bit cooler and bearable than yesterday)! Then we had some free time and I bought a chocolate milkshake, which was delicious.
After coming back to Chester, we caught the bus again to go back home and we ate at 6 p.m. because we were hungry.
Tomorrow I'm going to visit my work placement at last! I'm so excited and nervous to try this new experience!

We worked on our sport vocabulary with Paul and enjoyed the activities we had to do. I particularly liked the activity about superstition and idioms because I learnt new ones and because I find them very interesting and important if you want to improve your English.
After lunch we went to the River Dee, more specifically to the University of Chester, where we had a one-hour conference with a lecturer, who taught us the importance of tourism in Chester and its sustainability.
Then we went to see our work placements. I saw mine and I have to admit that, although I was a little bit anxious at the beginning, my two managers and the other Italian girl who is going to work with me were very polite and nice. I've been told to arrive at 9:30/10:00 a.m. in the morning and wear whatever I'm comfortable with. I don't know which work I'm going to do specifically yet but I'm looking forward to trying a new experience, especially since it's my first real work experience.
Outside my shop I also met a nice man who stopped to talk to us. He asked us how long we've been studying English and told us that we might find their way of speaking a little bit strange because their accent is slightly different from the one we're used to.
Afterwards, we completed the tour with Gabriele's and Chiara's shops and then we had some free time. I went around the city centre with Valentina, Giorgia and the two Martinas and had dinner at the pub "Burger Shed" with my roommates. We ate a tasty hamburger and enjoyed ourselves a lot! 
I really enjoyed myself today and I hope my job is interesting and inspiring! I have a little bit of anxiety but also enthusiasm to try this new experience. See you tomorrow.

I arrived at 8:40 a.m. in the morning and I waited till 9:15 with Gaia before showing up at the shop. When I arrived, Liz, one of the managers, showed me the shop and I stayed with a volunteer until Milena, the other Italian student, came. Then we started working together. Milena was very nice and helpful
and she showed me the till and the work we had to do. First, we had to put some price tags on CDs and DVDs with price and date: in fact I've learnt that, in the shop, they put dates to keep the products they sell new. So, when clothes are 'out of date' they are taken away. That's the work we had to do afterwards. We had to look at every single piece of clothing and take the out-of-date clothes upstairs. In the meantime I got the chance to get to know Milena better and I must say she's a very beautiful person.
At 1:00 p.m. I left the shop to have lunch with my friends. We met at the Cross and went to the Cathedral's park. At 2:00 p.m. I went back to the shop and I was told to stay at the till. Sometimes I got a little bit bored because there were moments when there were no customers and I had nothing to do. But then I got to sell some clothes and talk to some customers. One of them was a strange man who started singing for us: it was a very funny moment. I also talked to a couple from Tuscany and to a group of students who were half Italian and half Spanish, so I had the chance to practise my Spanish as well as my English. I felt very useful when an old lady asked for my help to carry what she had bought outside the shop.
I think my first working day was good, tiring as I expected (because I had to stand all day) and more exciting than I thought. I'm looking forward to doing it again but tomorrow we're going to Manchester! It's a city I've wanted to visit for a very long time so I'm happy to go!

We left at 9:45 a.m. more or less and arrived at 10:50. The first tourist attraction we saw was the Manchester United stadium from the outside and, after taking a picture of our group, we walked around the official shop of the football team. Then we went to the Science and Industry museum where we saw the "Baby", the first computer ever invented. My favourite part was certainly when we tried some experiments. I'll post some videos and photos of the museum because it is worth being remembered.
Afterwards we went to another part of the museum where there was the first station of Manchester and some old airplanes and we had lunch there.
In the afternoon we went to the city centre and had some free time. We had the opportunity to experience a crowded big city during the match England-Sweden. You'd expect everyone to be at home, but actually there were more people than on ordinary days because everybody gathered in bars and cafés to watch the match together. During our free time we went around the city and had a milkshake at "Costa" with the students of the other group. We had some problems socialising at the beginning because we are all very shy, but then it was fine and we enjoyed ourselves a lot! We also visited the Cathedral and a famous library of the city.
I expected Manchester to be more beautiful, to be honest, but I liked it! It reminds me of London a little bit.
Tomorrow we'll have some free time and we are going to spend the day with our host families. I hope to speak a lot of English!

We had a whole day of free time so we decided to wake up a little bit later than usual and go to the city centre in the morning. We walked along the city walls and saw the outside of the Cathedral because, since there was a service, we weren't allowed to enter. I bought some fruit while the others bought some sandwiches.
During the early afternoon we came back home and relaxed and I also talked to my host mother a little bit (fact I'm very happy about). We had our lunch/dinner at 3 p.m. and then, after relaxing, we went back to the city centre and we just walked around the city because every shop was closed. We finally saw the inside of the Cathedral and took some photos around the city. Gaia, Valentina and Aurora had a coffee at Starbucks and then we walked along the amazing River Dee. Later, we came back home and bought some peaches and yoghurt at the supermarket we have close to our house. I've never had such a strange dinner, but it's another thing added to the experience, isn't it?
It was a very relaxing day, even though still very hot. I'm excited to go back to work tomorrow, though, because we didn't have much to do today.

I had moments when there was nobody in the shop and I got very bored. Fortunately Milena was there with me and we talked a lot!
As far as work is concerned, I deepened my knowledge of the till, where I stayed the whole day and I have to admit I'm happy that I'm starting to become confident with it. It's not very easy to use, especially with women's clothes because there are a lot of categories I can choose from while selling the product. I have to be very careful because there are some clothes that are 'gift-aided' and some that aren't. It doesn't change anything concerning the price but I have to differentiate anyway.
After Milena left, I had a customer who had a refund and I had to ask my manager for help (but now I think I'm able to do that). I also helped some customers to find what they were looking for and I'm starting to recognise the usual customers of the shop.
After lunch, I had to check the 'out-of-date' clothes and put them on the grey hangers we have upstairs. For the rest of the afternoon I stayed at the till and sold quite a lot of products. 
I hope I'll be busier tomorrow.

The time passed without me even realising it! I stayed at the till most of the day as well as yesterday and I sold a lot of clothes. I still have some problems with the coins but I think I'll get used to them soon. During the morning I met Pat, a nice volunteer to whom I talked a lot. I spoke English a lot today and I'm very happy about it because with Milena I sometimes speak English but we usually speak Italian. During the morning I also met a customer, who was waiting for the fitting room to be free. I decided to talk to her and when I told her I was Italian she was very surprised because she thought I was English. I was pleased to receive such a nice compliment. I found out she speaks French, English and a little bit of Italian.
I also went to the bank with Milena to change some money before lunch.
After lunch I stayed at the till and met Alan, a very nice volunteer (they're all very polite and friendly fortunately), who is very funny. He showed me how to do the discount for the staff and the reason why some products are "gift-aided" (it is something complicated that has to do with taxes). As usual, I changed some CDs, DVDs and clothes which were out of date.
Tonight we ate pasta and brownies at home and now we are relaxing and watching a film together.

I had to do more or less the same things as yesterday. I stayed at the till during the morning and sold a few clothes. I also talked to a new volunteer from Manchester. She was very useful for my English because she's an English teacher and whenever you make a mistake with the language she gently tells you how to correct it. Simone came to my shop to do an interview and take a few photos since his café is closed on Wednesday.
During lunch we listened to a young man singing in front of the Cross. He has such an incredible voice and I really hope he'll get the chance to perform in front of a lot of people one day. I've noticed that there are a lot of street artists here and I think it's amazing!
After lunch I stayed upstairs and downstairs at the till. I had to check the out of date T-Shirts and shirts and change the price and date of some of them. I also used the 'gun' to put new labels on the clothes that will be available in the shop tomorrow morning. In the meantime I told Liz and my manager about the PON project and they seemed very surprised about it. I also had to put the out of date clothes on the grey hangers and arrange some CDs and DVDs.
Now I'm at home with my roommates. We've already eaten and tonight we're going to watch the match (England vs. Croatia).

There were some boring moments anyway. During the morning I stayed at the till and helped Milena with a project she has to do for her exam next year (because she is going to graduate). I filmed her while she was talking about our shop and her experience and while she was working and she gave me the idea to do a similar project (you'll see in a few days when I can edit the video).
As usual, I sold some clothes, books and CDs.
After lunch I stayed at the till and served some customers and I talked a lot to Alan and Milena. We finished recording her video and recorded mine and we had to reorganise some clothes. Basically they arrive from upstairs and we have to put women's clothes in the front part (skirts, trousers, dresses, long and short sleeved shirts and T-Shirts and accessories) and books, CDs, DVDs and men's clothes in the back as well as what they call 'retro' (which is vintage) and children's clothes. My manager also wants us to put the hangers and the clothes all in the same way and I like to divide them into sizes (M with M, 8 with 8 and so on).
At 4 p.m. we had a break and we ate Milena's donuts (my first one EVER) and pie: she bought them for us because today was her last day at work. I'm going to miss her a lot because she is a lovely girl and I really hope we'll meet again one day.
Tonight we ate at "the Church", a deconsecrated church which is now a pub, and then I went to a nice place with some of my friendswhere we ate a delicious crepe. 
Now it's time to go to bed.

It was Milena's last day so I spent the first hour with her and then the  volunteers and the manager Alison thanked her for her work. She was super sad and cried a lot but Alison told her not to be upset because she can always come back and see the people she got on so well with again.
Then I stayed at the till with Karen, a volunteer, and sold some clothes and products. 
At lunch I met my friends at the Cathedral and then I went around the city centre with Gabriele and Simone. 
After lunch it was quite busy and I had a few things to do. Alison told me to create space for new products on the shelves at the back of the shop and it took me a while. Fortunately Karen helped me and I think we reorganised it well. I also met an English girl who is from Chester and is volunteering because she's taking part in a contest, where she has to face some challenges. Then I had to organise some new clothes that came from upstairs. I also got the chance to practise my Spanish because two tourists saw me and talked to me in Spanish thinking I was from Spain. 
I also learnt that today and the next two days the race course will take place here and apparently it's quite an important event for the city, especially for its tourism. 
Now I'm at home and we're about to eat. Tonight I think I'll watch something on my tablet and relax. 
I'm so excited to go to Liverpool tomorrow! I've been told it's great!

I've been waiting to visit Liverpool for a very long time! I had high expectations, since the other students who visited it said it was amazing, and I am pleased to say I'm not disappointed! For some reasons it's similar to London, maybe because both have a river (which in the case of Liverpool is the River Mercy). We left at 9:45 from school with our two teachers, James, the man who usually accompanies us during our trips, and Adam, an English man who lives in Sevilla and speaks Spanish very well.
When we arrived we couldn't help stopping at the stadium of the football team of the city. After taking a few pictures, we caught the coach again and went towards the Beatles museum. Then some of us went there and some went to the Maritime Museum. I went to the Beatles Museum and it was awesome! To be honest with you, I don't listen to them that much, but I decided to go because I'm interested in music and they are a huge part of music history! We had a lot of fun and enjoyed ourselves (especially in the last part where we put on an Ed Sheeran's vinyl and played a huge piano).
After lunch we walked towards the city centre and saw the three most important buildings of Liverpool, the Three Graces. James told us that the symbol of the city is the "Liver Bird", which is hanging on the top of the buildings, and the legend says that if it flies away, it will be the end of the city.
I really enjoyed the walk along the river and the picturesque view as well. Then we had some free time around the city and I bought some souvenirs and tea for my family. At 5 we came back and headed home, where we had tortellini for dinner.
It was a really lovely day and I think Liverpool is one of my English favourite cities so far.
Tomorrow we are going to Conwy and Llandudno, a place in Wales, with the students from Asti 😍

Our host mum Sharon gently took us to school (since there wasn't a bus before 10:15), where we met our schoolmates and a group of other students from Asti (one of whom was Milena, the girl who worked with me). First of all we reached Conwy Castle, which was built by Edward I after having conquered the Welsh king. It was absolutely breathtaking. We took a lot of amazing pictures there and relaxed thanks to the sea we could see from the castle. Then we walked along the beach, where there is the smallest house in Great Britain, and the city walls, which are the most complete in Britain.
Then we took the coach once again and went to Llandudno, the city where a girl named Alice used to go on holiday and became the inspiration for Lewis Carroll to write Alice in Wonderland. There, we walked along the promenade and the pier (which is 700 m long more or less) and relaxed in the Alice in Wonderland park (also known as the Happy Valley). In the meantime we had some free time along the pier and in the city centre.
Today was very relaxing, even though we walked a lot, and I really enjoyed the time spent with my friends in these beautiful towns.
Tomorrow we are going back to work. I hope I'll have a lot of customers and a lot of work to do.

I stayed at the till this morning and recorded some audios for my presentation. Then I looked after two English students, Dan and Lewis, who are going to work with me this week because they are doing a project at school (similar to our ASL) that consists of a work experience to understand how the world of work works.
I showed the boys the shop and I helped Dan with the out of date clothes: as usual, we put them on the grey hangers.
After lunch I had to go to the bank with Lewis to change £20 into one-pound coins of and then I stayed at the till almost all afternoon. I checked if the hangers were all in the right position and I put each size with the corresponding one (XS with XS, 8 with 8 and so on). After Dan and Lewis left, I stayed alone at the till and sold a lot of products.
Before finishing working Gabriele and Alessia came to visit me and we all went to the Liverpool's store to buy some presents. Afterwards we went to the Town Hall. I didn't expect it to be so nice! We took some pictures and pretended to be on a trial. It was great fun 😂.
When we came back home, we found a delicious dinner prepared by Sharon, our host mum. 
Now we're watching The Voice Kids and later we're going to bed

During the morning, while I was waiting for the customers, I talked a lot to my manager, to Linda and to Pam. Alison, my manager, explained to us the new rules for the 'gift aid'. Basically, if someone wants to make a donation, we have to register their name, the code they have in the fidelity card and their postcode. Then Alison will check whether the person is registered or not and she'll put a tag on every new sign up.
After that Linda kindly answered a few questions I had about tourism in Chester (I'll upload the interview here). She basically said the city was much better when she was a teenager and she thinks it's not well preserved as I honestly think.
Afterwards I went to the bank with Dan to pay some taxes from the shop. Alison also sent us to Tesco's to buy some biscuits and, on our way, I saw Gabriele working and my two teachers. After a few minutes I had to go back to the bank to get some change.
After lunch I helped Dan to price some books, I placed new clothes and served some customers at the till. I also attached new tags to the clothes upstairs and reorganised the shelf that is protected by a lock (because it contains quite expensive products). In the middle of the afternoon James from Conlan School arrived and asked my manager to sign the forms for our ASL and he asked her how I was doing.
Now I'm at home with my friends. We had a nice dinner and later we're going to watch Temptation Island.

I said goodbye to a volunteer that was very useful for my English because, since she was a teacher, she told me what to correct in case I said something wrong.
After lunch Lewis and I went to the bank to count some money and pay taxes. They didn't give us the money back because apparently they needed an account to complete the procedure, so my manager and Liz had to go to the bank personally.
Then I stayed at the till again and tidied the shop up.
I priced new CDs and books and I was told the difference between blue and green tags: the green ones are for clothes that come from other shops and the blue ones are donations.
At 4 we ate a slice of cake for Alison's birthday and I said goodbye to Karen and Miller. I got on well with them as well and I'll miss them for sure.
Tomorrow is my last entire day at work! We're finally going to the cinema to watch the Mary Shelley's film!

In the first 2 hours I almost had nothing to do, but at 11, when Dan and Lewis arrived, a lot of customers came in. I stayed at the till, checked the out of date clothes and tidied up the shop (for instance I put the hangers in the right way) just to make sure it seemed clean and organised.
After lunch I stayed at the till with Alan and Dan and took a few donations upstairs. I also went to the bank again to get some change. Then Alan explained what a "float" is: basically it's some money you have to put in the till to have some for the next morning for the first sales.
Before going away I said goodbye to Alan and met my friends at the Cross. Together we went to the Storyhouse and watched the Mary Shelley film. I didn't expect it to be so interesting, so I was pleased to watch it! Afterwards we went to "Burger Shed" and ate a delicious hamburger. 
Now I'm at home and I'm a little bit tired.

They have been so kind and I'm really happy of the relationship we've created during these two weeks. They wished me good luck for everything and told me to come back. They also gave me a letter and a bracelet.
Then I met my friends at the Cathedral and had lunch with them. At 13:30 we went to Conlan School for the evaluation and the graduation ceremony. We had to fill a sort of feedback of our experience and sign some sheets and later Simone presented his presentation about our work experiences. After that, Sean gave us our certificates and he thanked us for being so hardworking and for bringing energy to the school.
Since we were free afterwards, we decided to go to the Cathedral. We took a picture (obviously) in front of it and stayed there for half an hour more or less.
After the visit we decided to go back home to pack our things. For dinner we ate pizza with our host parents and talked a lot to them. I am very happy about it because our mum often works while we are having dinner, so it was good to eat all together one last time 😢. My roommates and I gave her our letter and she thanked us a lot. Oh, I'll miss her so much❤
Now I'm going to relax and get ready for tomorrow, which will be a very long day.

I felt very sad when I woke up at 6 a.m. this morning. I just can't believe it all passed so fast. My roommates and I had our last breakfast together and after packing the last things, we left our house with our host mum, who kindly drove us to Conlan School. We also took a selfie together and at school she gave us a big hug. She has been so lovely to us! I think I'm going to miss her a lot!
At 8 a.m. we caught the bus to reach London Stansted airport. During those 5 hours we talked a lot, we relaxed, we listened to music, watched films and TV series and played some games.
We arrived at the airport at 1 p.m. and after the check-in we were free to eat and have a look around. Even though I had already eaten my packed lunch, I decided to share some fries and nuggets with Valentina (who was hungry although she had eaten her lunch as well as I did).
At 3 p.m. we all gathered again and went together to our gate (32) by train (yes, Stansted is quite big). Then we queued up to board. We were supposed to leave at 4 p.m. but we sat in our seats at 5 p.m. more or less. Then, since there was no personnel at the airport, we couldn't fly. So we had to wait again and the airplane finally took off at 6:30. The flight was comfortable and fine and I enjoyed it, despite the long wait.
We landed at 10 p.m. (Italian time) and after saying goodbye to each other, my cousin picked me up because my parents are on holiday. At home there was a delicious pizza waiting for me😍 So I ate and now I think I'm going to bed because I'm very tired.
I can't believe this is the end of my trip and the end of this diary. I hope you enjoyed it!
