It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it" (Fitzgerald 48), this shows that he doesn't smile a lot in front of people because a lot of people don't know him .

After Gatsby came back from the war he was determined to find Daisy again so they can be back together. "Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay" (Fitzgerald 78). This shows that Gatsby is determined to find Daisy again and find the right opportunity to be with her. When Gatsby is only across the bay from Daisy it allows him to see the life she is living and the accomplishment he has done. Also this shows that Gatsby has devoted his time, money, and emotions just for one person he loves.

"As soon as I arrived I made an attempt to find my host. but the two or three people of whom I asked his whereabouts stared at me in such an amazed way, and denied so vehemently any knowledge of his movements" (Fitzgerald 43). This scene shows that the people at the party doesn't even know the host they just show up because of the drinks, this also shows that he is mysterious because he doesn't party with the guests, he just stands and watches everyone.

In the first few chapters we can observe that Gatsby is a lonely person because he doesn't interact with other people. Many people also don't know who he is probably because he doesn't go out a lot or talk to people. "I love it, but I don't see how you live there all alone." "I keep it always full of interesting people, night and day. People who do interesting things. Celebrated people." (Fitzgerald 90) This quote shows that he is a lonely person but to keep himself entertained he always has people there at the house day and night, and if all these people were't at the house day and night he would be all alone in his big house.

In chapter 7, Daisy hits Myrtle with Gatsby's car and keeps driving. Although Daisy doesn't choose who she wants to be with, Gatsby talks the blame of hitting Myrtle. He does this so she doesn't get arrested and so she won't get the blame of other people. "Was Daisy driving?" "Yes, he said after a moment, but of course i'll say I was." (Fitzgerald 143) This shows that Gatsby cares about her a lot and loves her. He doesn't want Daisy to get harassed by other people therefore he agrees to take the blame for everything.

Gatsby acts like he desperately wants Daisy to say it but she won't, making Gatsby saying to Tom. "Your wife doesn't love you," said Gatsby. "She's never loved you. She loves me." (Fitzgerald 130) This shows that Gatsby is in love with Daisy but they can't be together until Daisy tells Tom that she doesn't love him anymore.

In chapter 7 you see Gatsby get angry for the first time in the novel. When Tom, Gatsby, Jordan, Daisy and Nick go into town they stay at an apartment and Tom asks questions about who Gatsby really is. As Tom talks about the drug stores Gatsby were involved in it takes a while for Gatsby to lose his temper on Tom, but Tom succeeds and Gatsby gets frustrated. "Then I turned back to Gatsby-and was startled at his expression. He looked-and this is said in all contempt for the babbled slander of his garden-as if he had "killed a man". (Fitzgerald 134) This shows that it takes a while until Gatsby gets angry unlike Tom whereas he is short tempered and gets mad easily.

In chapter 5 as Daisy is going to Nick's house for tea with Gatsby, he and tries to make Nicks house more clean and presentable. "The day agreed upon was pouring rain. At eleven o'clock a man in a raincoat, dragging a lawn mower, tapped at my front door and said that Mr. Gatsby has sent him over to cut my grass." (Fitzgerald 83) As Gatsby looks at Nicks house he notices that it's not that nice so he kindly sends over someone to cut Nick's grass to make it look better. Also in this scene he offers Nick a job because he knows Nick doesn't make a lot of money, but Nick refuses.
