The effect of Julia Alvarez's use of personification in the poem I, Too, Sing Sing America is to make the reader understand that we should see all of America as a family. The poem states, "With all America inside me from the soles...To the great plain face of Canada-all of us." This evidence explains that she is not only talking about the U.S. she is talking about the lower part of the country North America and south america, by giving Canada a face she wants everyone to be American and be represented as one whole.

The effect of Alvarez using personification in the poem is to represent that she doesn't see America as black people or workers. She sees America as a family. According to the poem, it states "With all America inside me from the soles...To the great plain face of Canada-all of us." This evidence shows that she is talking about the bottom of the country North America and South America. By giving Canada a face she wants everyone to be American and be represented as one whole. For instance, according to the text, it states "Singing America, the whole hemispheric familia." This detail shows that sees America as a family. She wants everyone to be consider as a American even though they are in different parts in the world.
