When he started the trip, Columbus was commanding three small ships, and after a long journey, landed on the coast of a Caribbean island. This lead the beginning of the Spanish conquest of America. The widely published report of the 1492 voyage granted Christopher Columbus widespread recognition across Europe and secured him the title of Admiral of the Ocean Sea. This lead three more expeditions to the Caribbean (However, Columbus continued to belive that he had reached Asia until he died.)

Before that the February Revolution had taken place in Russia  during that year, which disolved the Tsar monarchy. While the Tsar Nicolas II was being removed from his position (before October), the urban workers began to organize into councils named "soviets"  where revolutionaries criticized the government and its actions.
