Dear Fr. Brown,

I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the spiritual guidance and accompaniment you offered during the Ignatian pilgrimage I was blessed to participate in a few years ago.

Your presence, wisdom, and thoughtful reflections helped create space for deeper prayer, discernment, and encounter. Long after the pilgrimage ended, I have continued to carry many of those moments with me — both personally and in the way I approach my work and relationships.

I am also deeply grateful for all you have done for Loyola alumni and for the entire Loyola community over the years. Your ministry, compassion, and faithful witness have touched countless lives and helped so many feel more deeply connected to Loyola’s Jesuit mission and values.

Thank you for the care and generosity with which you have shared yourself and your vocation with all of us. You have made a lasting impact on this community, and I feel fortunate to have learned from and journeyed alongside you.

Please know of my continued gratitude and prayers.

With appreciation,

Brian Oakes, ‘99

Father Brown,

Looking back on my time at Loyola, I can say with certainty that you helped shape the trajectory of my life. One invitation to a book club in the fall of 2019 set off a chain of events I never could have anticipated: a job, a community and friendships that made me who I am today.

But I know this isn't just my story; so many Loyola alumni can point to you as a turning point, someone who made them feel seen, valued and capable of more than they realized. That is a rare gift, and you give it freely to everyone you meet. To know you is a Greyhound rite of passage.

I am so grateful to call you my friend. This recognition is so well deserved.

Love,

Eleanor Kelley '20

Congratulations, Father Brown! I am so happy to see you recognized with the President’s Medal, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving.

When I was at Loyola, you truly vouched for me and helped guide me at a time when I needed it. As my advisor, you moved me away from classes that didn’t feel right, talked me through my interests, and encouraged me to explore the Global Studies major. At the time, I’m not sure I fully understood where that path would lead, but the classes and experiences I chose with your guidance ultimately helped push me toward the nonprofit world.

Today, I work at a PR and communications firm that partners exclusively with nonprofits, and I can see so clearly how those conversations with you helped shape the direction of my career. Thank you for seeing me, listening to me, and helping me find a path that felt meaningful. Your impact on Loyola students is immeasurable, and I am so grateful to be one of them.

Congratulations again on this well-deserved honor!
