Il principe Eugenio nasce il 18 ottobre 1663 a Parigi dal principe Eugenio Maurizio di Savoia Carignano e da Olimpia, un’amante del re di Francia. Eugenio cresce nel palazzo di Soissons, educato dalla nonna estremamente rigida. Soltanto a 13 anni la madre comincia a prendersi cura di lui e della sua educazione: probabilmente per questo motivo in lui cresce una certa durezza e freddezza per le donne. Gracile e malaticcio, non si perde d’animo e nonostante sia destinato alla vita monastica persegue il suo sogno di intraprendere la carriera militare: infatti, nel 1683 chiede di entrare nell’armata francese, ma, rifiutato, scappa con un suo amico, il principe Conti, in Austria. Qui, all’età di vent’anni, entra nell’esercito della famiglia Asburgo e dopo nemmeno cinque anni viene promosso colonnello. Importante la battaglia di Zenta del 1697, dove sbaraglia i Turchi e ferma il loro assedio in Ungheria. A corte è una delle personalità più chiacchierate dal momento che decide di non sposarsi, un po’ per gli impegni militari, un po’ perché si dice sia gay.

It is a tempera on panel which is dates back to 1505.The painter is Marino of Alba. The light is soft and the colors nuanced. The painter didn't just focus on the foreground, but the background too, where the Colosseum is represented.

Today we are going to play the 'Benefactor Hunt'. Does anyone know who is a benefactor??

A benefactor is a person, man or woman, who asks an artist to be portrayed in a painting. The benefactor is always on his knees and praying. Now we are going to show you some of the paintings that we have chosen for you.

This painting was painted by Gerolamo Giovenone, there 2 Saints, Domenico and Abbondio and the Virgin with her son. In this painting there is a woman who is accompanied by her sons.

Now we are in the rooms where the paintings created in the Renaissance by artists from Piedmont are on display. They are nearly all religious masterpieces. They were kept in churches and chapels in Piedmont. They were supposed to show the church goers, the images and the stories from Jesus' life and miracles.
Nearly all of them are painted on panels.

The painting represents the Virgin adoring the Child, angels playing and singing, saints including John the Baptist and Jerome.
