Today's work is as follows
Write two scenarios concerning child abuse. In each scenario you will need to suggest a method in which professionals can work in partnership to reduce child abuse. You will need to explain a type of child abuse that the child is being subjected to in each scenario and the indicators of the abuse.
You need to describe how a social worker would intervene in the situation. You need to apply a piece of legislation to each scenario and give an overview of the legislation which is relevant to each scenario. You have 25 minutes to complete each scenario

Child A - Child Neglect

Throughout the term the teaching assistant for Child A has noticed that Child A appears to be lethargic, even at the start of the School day. Child A does not have School lunches paid for by their parents but does bring in a packed lunch. Upon regular observation the lunchbox appears very scant in choice and provision of adequate food for break times and lunch. Child A has been observed queuing in the school lunch queue upon occasion and has been given a meal at the discretion of the lunch supervisor. On occasion food has been reported as going missing from other children's lunchboxes and it is suspected that Child A may be responsible for this.

In addition to this when changing for PE it has been noted that the PE clothes are frequently reused and unwashed. There is also a strong smell of odour from the child at times and hair is often greasy and unkempt. Their School shoes appear to be too tight as they are now being unbuckled at the straps and the child has complained of sore heels.

Under the Children's Act 2004 the school must show due diligence and follow the safeguarding procedures.

The teaching assistant has raised their concerns with the class teacher and they have agreed to have an informal chat with the parent at the end of the school day. On the occasion of the chat the parent appeared non plussed and put out at having being asked about their child's poor performance and state of dress.

The safeguarding officer has been contacted and they have reported the incident to the LEA who have advised that Social Services must be contacted.

Upon contacting social services the school have been advised that the social care team will take over the case to assess the situation and implement any necessary action. The social care team have assured the school that they will update them with any action taken but are not legally obliged to disclose and share any confidential information to the school.
A very good piece of work but you could've included more information concerning the social work intervention ie, type of theory and application of the theory concerning the method used in practice

Child Abuse Scenario 2. Rahul is 14 months and resides with his mother during this period of lockdown. Very recently, a concerned neighbour has heard and seen Rahul crying and struggling in his highchair in the garden. The crying continues at length without any intervention from his mother. The neighbour can neither intervene nor chat with Rahul’s mother due to the restrictions imposed under lockdown and therefore has resorted to calling social services.Social services have intervened and have immediately appointed a social worker to the case as both Rahul and his mother are deemed to be both vulnerable and at risk. The social worker has found that Rahul is suffering from neglect and abuse and his mother seems to be withdrawn due to depression form isolation in the current climate. Under the Children’s Act 2004 and following amendments in 2006, the social worker must intervene and act upon a duty of care to assist both Rahul and his mother. The social worker will endeavour to resolve this situation to benefit both mother and child but is mindful of that separating the child from its mother at this time may have long lasting and detrimental effects on both parties. She is therefore mindful that she will need to implement good theory and practices to help Rahul’s mother with coping strategies as this will inevitably benefit Rahul’s welfare under his mother’s care and avoid unnecessary separation and trauma during this uncertain period. The social worker has talked at length with Rahul’s mother, who is very young, and has found that she is struggling without the usual help and intervention from her family with domestic chores and basic childcare such as preparing meals, cleaning the house and dealing with a teething baby. The social worker, Nancy, is working in line with the Children and Social Work Act 2017 in forming a working partnership with Rahul and his mother. Nancy has effected a person centred approach to gain relevant background knowledge of Rahul’s mother, ascertain what stages of development Rahul is currently at and establish a trustworthy relationship with Rahul’s mother to establish the next steps in implementing a recovery period and a plan of action for future coping mechanisms for Rahul’s mother. Nancy will also implement a strategic safeguarding plan to ensure the following: •	Protect them from further abuse or neglect •	Support them to explore their experiences and express their feelings •	Provide early emotional support, including building emotional resilience and strategies for coping with symptoms •	Assess their physical health needs •	Assess the need for further mental health support •	Support them to reduce the risk of future abuse if appropriate. Nancy will adapt practical and cognitive therapy approaches to educate Rahul’s mother in basic childcare practices, talking through child developmental stages and basic childcare. Nancy will offer sensitive support and guidance for coping during isolation and is currently working to obtain up to date technology, for example a iphone and tablet for Rahul’s mother to find helpful resources for Rahul’s mother to develop her skills as a mother and to afford her better socially distanced access to friends and family.

Well done you have designed a contemporary case study and applied social work theories to support you in explaining the appropriate intervention. Generally, an outstanding piece of written text however, you need to proofread your work to eliminate minor errors prior to submission. Excellent, you have clearly grasped the concepts of social work intervention.
