The Guardian Connect is a new product in the line of continuous glucose monitoring systems created by the company Medtronic. This specific product has the ability to notify diabetics of potentially high or low glucose levels up to 60 minutes before the event, minimizing the occurrence of hypoglycemic events. It works by using sensors to test sugars in the interstitial fluid right underneath the skin of the abdomen or upper arm and transmitting results to an app every five minutes. An algorithm is used to compute the rate of glucose change to predict dangerous spikes or dips, and finally alerts are sent to notify the user to take action. This device also has the added benefit of relating change in blood sugar levels to daily activities, stress, insulin doses, and food intake, allowing the user better control of their diabetes (Medtronic, 2018).

Opinions and Rationale

This product, and those like it, will be extremely beneficial in the long term management of diabetes, minimizing blood sugar spikes and dips, and controlling A1c levels. This should also be beneficial in teaching both new and long established diabetics how their body responds to their environment, specifically in relation to their diet, which is very important in the control of diabetes. This product also gives a lot of control to the providers who prescribe treatment. They will be better able to determine how each type and dose of insulin affects the patient, and what changes need to be made to manage the disease. Continuous glucose monitoring is not widely used at this time mainly because of the cost, and lack of awareness of these products. It would be beneficial to the public if continuous glucose monitoring devices such as these were more frequently advertised, costs were reduced, payment options were more affordable and insurance coverage more widely accepted. Altogether as the technology for this type of equipment continues to grow and improve, perhaps our overall diabetes management plan can be revolutionized as well.

Individualization

My goal is to find a group of people that will complement my strengths and fill in where I am short. For this reason, I have selected these five people:
-- Carter. He is a strong communicator, and will help facilitate the group.
--David. He is deliberative, and therefore able to anticipate obstacles we may face in carrying out this innovation.
--Faith. She is futuristic and a great facilitator. She will be able to keep the group inspired.
-- Fernando. He is focused, will help keep us on track and ensure the overall goal does not get forgotten or pushed aside.
-- Matthew. He is great at maximizing the potential of the entire group, ensuring everyone is working at their highest potential.

I believe this combination of strategic thinking, execution, influencing and relationship building is paramount in creating and sustaining a group of individuals capable of implementing innovations to care. My goal is to ensure the differences in the group does not overwhelm our objective and everyone remains committed to the task and each other during the innovation process.
