In the text, “Anything but Typical” Jason's mother is very overprotective over him however towards the end she realizes that she was wrong. “But his mother will never use that term. She prefers three different letters: NLD, nonverbal learning disorder. Or these letters: PDD-NOS, pervasive developmental disorder– non-specific.” I know that if someone doesn't use the correct term for something in front of someone it might be because they don't wanna hurt their feeling or make them feel bad about himself, so this makes me believe that Jason's mom is doing this to protect Jason and to not let him feel bad about himself. This also made me believe that Jason's mother was very careful about what she said in front of Jason. Then towards the end the text stated, “All this time I thought I was supposed to be teaching you,” my mother is saying to me. “I was wrong.”...“But it was me, all along,” she says. “It is me who needs you, Jason. You’ve taught me so much this trip. You’ve taught me about being brave.” Here it says, “All this time I thought I was supposed to be teaching you,” my mother is saying to me” This tells me that the mother knew that she was trying to protect jason and that she thought that this was the best for him, but than it also said later one “It is me who needs you, Jason. You’ve taught me so much this trip. You’ve taught me about being brave.” This tells me that later on in the text Jason's mom realized that it wasn't him that needed more help and couldn't be independent, but it was her because she was the one who needed Jason. In conclusion, in the text, “Anything but typical” Jason's mother thought that Jason needed to be protected, but now she knows that Jason doesn't need help anymore that it was just her who  needed or wanted him.
