In this presentation I will outline our creation of an AI Agent who supports staff to create an AI Use Statement. This tool moves away from the red light system that has been widely adopted within the sector in response to AI technologies. Alternatively, this tool, draws upon module specific content to create custom use statements that recommends how AI can be used to support student learning within a given module. The statement also explains to students how particular uses of AI could prevent students from reaching the module's prescribed learning outcomes. The presentation will outline the process undertaken for the development of this tool, as well as the underpinning principles for the tool. This project has been enabled by the National Forum's Pathfinder Funding.

In this session, we will outline a methodology for approaching assessment redesign in the context of Generative AI - the 'ThinkAloud' method. In this, participants work 1-1 with a partner and directly use Generative AI to try and complete an existing assessment as if they were a student. Participants then talk through the outputs with the partner, evaluate how effective the AI has been in completing the assessment, and consider strategies for adapting the assessment to account for, embed, or mitigate for, the impact of the technology.

Using a ThinkAloud methodology in the assessment redesign process in the context of Generative AI helps overcome the panic and fear of Generative AI's ability to complete the assessment wholesale, and provides a discursive, dialogic space to work through ideas and develop new approaches.

In this session, we will explore how Generative AI has impacted multimodal forms of learning, teaching and assessment. We'll discuss what we mean by multimodality - pedagogy that combines multiple semiotic forms such as text, image, sound, and touch - to enhance and develop meaning-making, and we'll explore how Generative AI might make that more accessible, flexible, varied or effective than manual multimodality. We'll also outline findings from a research project on this topic, and invite discussion on how this might be applied in local contexts.

This session examines how generative AI—particularly highly controlled text generation—can support both learners and educators in beginning-level second-language modules through the development of targeted instructional tools. Drawing on the case of Spanish 001 at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, it presents practical strategies for addressing the challenges of generating controlled texts for beginners, along with concrete recommendations for creating scalable solutions that enhance the student experience—such as AI-driven conversation partners and personalized tutors—and improve lecturer efficiency through the automated generation of learning resources. Attendees will gain actionable strategies for managing AI text generation at the beginner level and insights into integrating these capabilities into tools that support early-stage language learning.
