Towards the peak of the pandemic in the United States, Florida was one of the national and global hotspots for positive COVID-19 cases. One of the major issues that society and the media quickly realized is that the lower class areas and neighborhoods with more prevalent ethnic minorities had les or lower quality access to COVID tests and treatment. When the statistics were released on the news, sometimes daily, the more affluent areas always had a lower positivity rate than the ones with more black and hispanic residents. The people of color were shown to be at the bottom of the priority list when it came to circulating supplies and tests. There were BLM rallies and protests that fought against the systemic racism within the police force especially, but this was not due to the pandemic. The George Floyd incident sparked the protests and other people's killings, like Breonna Taylor, added on to the fight for the BLM cause. I think that racism is obviously one of the worst things about our society and it has no rightful place in this world. I am glad that people have brought to many other people's attention and that fighting for change has become more prevalent, because racism, especially exemplified throughout this past year has made way too many appearances in our society.
