Throughout the entire 4 weeks of my posting, I was able to gain knowledge on air ticketing, visa processing, hotel booking, and international tourism while improving my social skills, including decision-making, communication, time management, and critical thinking. In short, yes, I was able to achieve my project's objectives.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

Honestly, the whole project was a very enlightening and delightful experience. I am most thrilled to experience the tourism industry as an employee, in contrast to being a customer as usual. I benefit from this experience personally, in which I could apply my experience to future family vacation planning, and professionally, where I have honed my aforementioned skills.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

I found it quite hard to adapt to the surroundings at first because of my introverted personality and my lack of social experience. Hence, I hesitated a lot when approaching others and voicing my opinion. The industry was also unfamiliar to me. Nevertheless, as time went by, I was able to build confidence, warm up to my colleagues, and gain insight into the inner workings of the industry.

4. What has really worked? (Any part of the project that you thought worked well.)

I take great pride in my successful pitch for the turkey package. I have spent considerable effort pondering over the project to figure out the details like itinerary, lodgings, and transport by putting myself in the shoes of both the provider and consumer. I also experienced a lot of anxiety as it was a major project for me, a mere part-time worker. As a result, I relish the positive comments and feedback given by my teammates following my pitch the other day.

5. What can be improved in this project?

I think rather than making it an individual project, it is more suitable as a team-based project. Therefore, better work segregation, leadership and teamwork capabilities, and greater ideas can be contributed. Otherwise, I am satisfied with the project, as it has helped me improve myself in various fields and widen my knowledge of adulting.

 

I think my objectives of this project was fulfilled cause now I know how audiologist approach people with hearing and speech disorders. Secondly, I know how they manage people with these disorders. Last but not least, I Able to apply these knowledges in the workplace.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

 

The thing I like the most about the project was the workplace environment. The staff were truly helpful and sporting because they always there when I need them the most. They were not complaining when I did wrong instead of blaming. Moreover, they really like to make a fun joke during lunch break because I think I am the only one male that they do not how to interact with so yeah they made the joke. They like to treat me with some candies during work and one of the staffs treat me with a burger. I really enjoyed this kind of project.

 

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

 

I think the most challenging about this project when deal with real patient. I know that patient always have right to accept or refuse what kind of decision that we made. It was hard to convince to let them buy the hearing aids. One of the reasons they refused was they think it is hard to use it in daily. Money is not the main problem cause they can receive a lot of discount especially if the patient referred by the government. It was challenging but can handle it professionally. 

 

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

 

The part that really worked in this project is the bonding. At first, it is hard to interact cause the workplace was filled with female workers and I am the only one is male worker. After day by day, I really feel comfortable with them. Many things were fun that we did and we enjoyed together. In my opinion, it is not easy to handle with people that we did not know when first time work in same environment so yeah, after been through a lot together, everything has changed.

 

5. What can be improved in this project?

 

I think this project can be improved by visiting to other different branches for each week. Actually, the workplace have three branches. First in Shah Alam which is the headquarter and the others in Bangi and Johor Bahru. From that I can learn a lot how to handle with real patient in different environment.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

The most enjoyable part of the project is the positive working and learning environment from the friendly staff and great GP that are willing to teach and provide a hands-on experience. I heard about a lot of toxic and negative environment experience when working in a healthcare industries especially in the government sector and I was quite nervous when applying this job as my elective posting. Thankfully, my experience was totally opposites from the rumours and I hope that the working and learning environment in government sector could be improved to create a positive environment for everyone. 

 

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

The challenging part is when I am about to do procedures such as venepuncture, IM injection and setting an IV line for the first time on patient. With the kind help and advice from the GP and staff I have successfully manage to perform those procedures. 

 

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

Almost all of the part in the project worked well such as the part where I could use my previous knowledge and enhance them by perform it practically on patient. 

 

5. What can be improved in this project?

The project could be improved by having knowledge on paediatrics and O&G as those cases present on the GP clinic and by having those knowledge could help me understand better on the case. 

(interesting case this week: An elderly lady presented with painless bleeding from an abnormal lesion on her forehead. The lesion has been progressively worsen for the past 3 years which treated by previous GP with antibiotic and wound dressing. Currently suspected with skin CA (BCC or MM) and referred to nearby hospital. Patient could have a better prognosis if the skin CA detected earlier by previous GP as the current condition the cancer cell have breached the basement membrane and blood vessel causing bleeding from the lesion)

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

Yes, I think all the objectives of the project are fulfilled. In this project, I learned much on Chinese traditional medication knowledge especially in acupuncture and cupping treatment. 

 

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

I really appreciate the opportunity to learn from the experienced practitioners that interned in China for 2 years. This knowledge can be valuable for my personal growth. Although I don’t have the chance to participate in hands-on activities but I could observe, assist the treatment and interact with patient which is educational and rewarding experience to me. 

 

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

It is very hard to get consent from patients as patients are more sensitive to their privacy when having treatment. Other than that, there are too much knowledge needed to be learned as Chinese traditional medication are different from our medical knowledge. It is difficult to do a discussion without learning the concepts of Chinese traditional medication.

 

 

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

I think I worked well in assisting with the Chinese traditional medication practitioner and some administrative tasks. I help on scheduling appointments and managing patient records. This can free up the practitioner to focus on patient care. Furthermore, I will prepare all the equipment before the treatment starts. 

 

5. What can be improved in this project?

Knowledge of traditional Chinese medication should be improved so that I may have the chance to do hands-on activities or discuss cases. Reading research articles is the useful way to enhance my knowledge. Enhancing my ability to adapt to different clinic environment is also essential as the settings are different compared to hospital. 

Our outcomes were notably promising, having achieved our initial goals. While we're satisfied with this positive progress, we are currently analyzing data gathered from the sessions to comprehensively assess the quality of instruction materials and facilitators. Overall, the response has been positive, and we anticipate even better results for our future efforts, as our close interaction with the community during the campaign allows us for some observable improvements.

I enjoy the Women First Training the most because this is the outcome of collaborative efforts. I still remember how many times the director rejected our ideas. At the end, we finally managed to plan the training that is customized to meet the community's backgrounds, environments, and experiences. We innovate our curriculum to optimize the learning of this knowledge into practical skills. For example, we use more infographics and dummies to deliver the message. The most rewarding part is the ‘Thank You’ from the women who have attended the training.

Language proved to be a significant barrier, as the community's native language differed from the instructional material and what we speak. Therefore, we engaged the local translators to bridge this gap and ensure the women understand downright. Though the literacy levels varied among the participants, which predominantly remained low, prompting us to adopt and accommodate different learning capacities.

We received limited reference materials from the Ministry of Health and we addressed this by collaborating closely with local healthcare professionals to create relevant and context-specific content for our training modules. However, perhaps the most intricate challenge was related to the sensitive and taboo nature of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) topics within the community. To tackle this, we adopted cross-cultural communication strategies to foster trust and open dialogue.

Limited incentives for public participation and low initial interest posed hurdles. We worked hard to convey the long-term benefits of the program to the community, emphasizing the potential for positive change in SRH outcomes. This community, where men traditionally held the strongest decision-making power, required fostering a collective mindset. We engaged them in the discussions to promote a shared understanding of the significance of change.

Just akin to many other marginalized communities, we recognised that the community's empowerment and development were hampered by financial barriers rooted in poverty as the most formidable barrier to accessing basic needs within the community before these social changes can be made sustainably.

In terms of Women First Training, we managed to provide education on identifying potential obstetric emergencies and complications during home deliveries, safe delivery techniques, and teaching the necessary skills to handle such situations

In terms of Community Clinics, we managed to conduct mass screening and health awareness talk to provide basic healthcare services for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the community with local CHWs. Collection of health data of the community also helps in the developments of future targeted interventions and helps in planning future health initiatives as well as the policies in our country.

Enhanced collaboration with the recce team during the research phase could have amplified our impact. A more substantial involvement from the outset would have enabled us to tailor our approach better and develop a curriculum that effectively dismantles barriers.
