This would lead not only to competition between both species, but also predation as buzzards could easily hunt and feed on barn owls. To avoid this issue, these two birds of prey are active during different times of the day: buzzards are diurnal, while owls are mostly nocturnal.

As a large omnivorous mammal the wild boar feeds on fruits, acorns, nuts, roots, green plants and crops, as well as insects, worms, small rodents, bird eggs and even carrion. In the past, they also served as prey for the largest carnivorous mammal in Serra da Estrela, the wolf (Canis lupus signatus).
