Have you ever been rafting or gone hiking in the Marañon area? Imagine, both experiences would disappear if the projects are built. What would you do? How can you contribute to this situation?

The ecosystems of the Andes and the Amazon would be completely destroyed. National Geographic scientists conducted a research about the impact of the dams on the flora and fauna of the Marañon canyon. The result was that the construction of these dams will change the course of the river.

Furthermore, deforestation will be a consequence of building the dams. Approximately, five species live in a tree on average. It means, the natural habitat of several species will be devastated leading to an increase of endangered species.

However, some government officials argue that the project will bring progress and economic growth to the communities. This is certainly quite doubtful as the process of consulting the population has not been transparent. What's more, only 2% of the mining tax will remain in the area.

I believe there are interests from groups of powers who only seek personal benefit at the cost of destroying fragile environments. What we can do to stop this is to create awareness about this problematic. Also, signing petitions against this project can draw attention to the topic before it is too late.

Have you ever been gone hiking in the Marañon area? If you ever were, you will know how amazing it happens there. But in case this happens, nothing will be the same for that river. The entire ecosystem will be destroyed if we don't do something.

Many science experts and magazines have announced that if this huge dam is created it will be the end not only for many species of fish but also for species that drink, hunt among many more activities.

In addition, many forests will be lost and deforestation could be extreme for the construction of the dam.

Indigenous communities will also be affected and could suffer after not having this great river which is very important not only for them but for the entire Amazon.

In conclusion, it is important that this never happens since we could all be affected by losing a great source of life and tourism. In my opinion, if this happens, I hope that the government fully defends anyone who wants to harm this river.

The Amazon rainforest is the world's largest rainforest, and it stretches around the Amazon River basin in South America, stretching from the Andes to the Atlantic Ocean's beaches. With a total area of more than 7 million kilometers that stretches across boundaries, reaching surfaces in nine different nations, it is by far the richest terrestrial ecosystem on the globe, but what if deforestation continues? What can we do to avoid it?
If the deforestation on the amazon rainforest continues, lots of habitats will be damaged and as a result of this there would be less food sources. In addition to that is most likely that the biodiversity will be reduced significantly because of the destruction of their natural habitats.
Furthermore, deforestation can lead to pollution because trees are known to be natural air filters and as a result of deforestation, human activities like driving a car or treating water can lead to ecosystem degradation.
In conclusion, if we continue deforestating the amazon rainforest, we are going to lose the biggest air filter in the world, and lots of biodiversity.

Has climate change really been given importance in your country ?
Well, the effect of climate change is in all the continents, Imagine that in your country doesn't join in the fight to solve that.
According to the psychologist Per Espen Stoknes raises the question if humans are inevitably short-term thinkers, and if so, what changes are needed for us to start thinking long-term about climate change?
Also, tudies have shown that if one house in a neighborhood puts solar panels on its roof, the neighbors are most likely to follow.
Furthermore, we should collectively push politicians, decision-makers, and businesses to make the sustainable option the default option.
However, some countries like Turkey won't have a chance to contribute money to the projects.

From my point of view, I want to believe that people will think and act long-term on climate change if there are more favorable conditions for doing so. Because now is the time to choose to live smarter.

Rosa Llantoy
