The subject of this interview was a parent of a Head Start Student in the South Philadelphia region. The parent is a first generation American, who originally is from Nepal. The parents English Language skills are adequate enough to complete the interview. She is very knowledgeable on modern day technology, and has the newest version of the IPhone, as well as a laptop computer at home. She speaks Nepali and English. She often communicates with family members over seas via Skype, Facebook, or FaceTime. She did however express some concerns with the ability to communicate with staff at the school due to cultural and language barriers she and many of her family members face. She did not know how to express some concerns, and wished technology was used more as a method of communication, so she could translate some words or concepts she did not understand. Below is and small portion of some of her interview responses, that explain her ideologies and concerns with communication for non English speaking families.
~

| 4. Identify potential barriers to ______ for educators. | Lack of professional development opportunities(Technology specifically) for teachers , administration, parents. Some teachers do not use technology with parents. | Lack of well equipped or willing staff. | Language barriers can be a huge issue for families of English learners. ~

The general education teacher seemed the most positive and well aware of the expectation for collaboration, co-teaching, and consultation in the educational setting. The general education teacher has a degree and has attended college courses, unlike the Teacher Assistant and Parent that I Interviewed. She is a new teacher and has been teaching for less than a year, however is very informed and optimistic about what she can do, to effectively create an environment where interpersonal communication is a staple in the classroom.

Review Below:
~

| 3. Identify benefits educators may derive from ______. | An effective well-run classroom, that has intentional teaching methods being used throughout the day. | Sharing ideas, knowledge, and teaching styles. Diversifying teaching styles goes a long way in a classroom. | Team work, as well as lessened cases of miscommunication or altercations.~
~~

Teacher "Assistant" Special Education Classroom.

A teachers assistant for the Philadelphia School District was the subject for my interview. She has held this position for the past 3 years and have worked in various special needs classrooms. Her role is to assist the teacher with physical care such as toileting, transportation, and various educational components of the classroom. From the results of the interview it seems that communication barriers between her, administration, as well as the lead teacher seem to be a common occurrence. Technology is not often used as a form of communication, and collaboration and the concept of co-teaching doesn't occur in the classroom. There is a defined hierarchy, yet much of the discipline aspect comes from the assistant teacher rather than the "lead" teacher. Below are answers to some of the questions, that gave important insight to the communication issues she was experiencing first hand.
~

| 6. How comfortable with and prepared are you for ______? | I think I am not prepared . I enjoy sharing ideas, however I do not think the environment or space allows me to share ideas easily. My teacher and I do not get along well for various reasons, I would rather not discuss. I don't feel likes she values what I bring tot the table.| I am not comfortable with the amount of collaboration that is happening, she basically instructs me to teach how she would like, rather than consider my thoughts. However I am open to collaboration. ~
