Nothing worth doing in this life is easy, and sometimes you are bound to fail. This doesn't define you; one of the greatest skills one can have is the ability to take meaning away from failure and to use it to better yourself. Instant and ever-present success does nothing but atrophy the mind and the will and set you up for a catastrophic failure you may not be able to overcome.

Great quote, Nick! I think this message about failure is important to keep in mind as we progress through high school. For some of us, although we might not fail a class, we sometimes fail our own standards. For many people in our class, getting a 90 is equivalent to a complete failure. It is important to keep in mind that these failures are an essential part of life.

I think this definitely applies to society today. In school at least, I know there are lots of people who are hesitant to, say, take a difficult class just because they are scared of possibly losing a few percentage points. But in the long run, they miss out on the valuable lessons they would have learned if they had taken it. In the end, I think it's important to recognize that nobody is going to look back on who got a 100 in this one class versus someone who got a 94 in another. Rather, we'll be able to look back and think "wow, I really learned some great lessons here and gained all sorts of insight."

Great quote, Nick. I can identify with this quote very much, since I make many mistakes daily. Do I learn from them? Most of the time. For instance, in Biology class, I once had a research paper to write and procrastinated writing the draft until the night it was due. I finished it at 1am! Gosh, was that a mistake. Now I force myself to divide time to do an assignment well before it is due.

I know personally, that to accomplish something, you usually have to overcome failures. It is rare to accomplish something at first without failing at one point along the way. Sometimes it is hard to realize that, but after some time most people accept and realize that reality.

There are unnecessary standards set for every student who wants to go to a competitive college, and turns the student into a machine, not a person. The thing is the college doesn't want a machine, they want a person, so you end up with a bunch of stressed out teenagers who don't have lives, and all they do is study.
