My first school experience in the United States was a nightmare but my pride did not allow me to quit. I have faced a heartache with my sweet Nathan that I'm sure many other parents have faced. He is a very smart boy, yet he struggles in school. He failed second grade and that left me feeling devastated and like a failure. I felt as though I failed him as a mother and that his retention was my fault. Well this hurt me more than it hurt him. I soon realized that him failing second grade is what he needed and I can say now that he is doing so much better. It consisted of volunteers fundraising for a type of cancer that we wanted to represent. Depending on how much money was raised, we had to dye certain amount of hair the color of the cancer we had selected. I chose Pink for my sister because in 2009 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and as of today she is cancer free! And I chose blue because in 2011 my dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer and green because he is now fighting liver cancer. These are two of the most important people in my life and I love them dearly. I could not say no when I was approached about this because it cancer hits close to home. This is them and this was me up to yesterday...my hair is now normal again!
