Analysis

The quotes provided above supports the fact that society undervalues the idea and use of knowledge. In today's society, people are more self-centered towards their beliefs rather than the truth in knowledge. For example, Mildred is an example of the aspect of society. She believes that books are not real because she is happier watching television and that books are illegal. Another example would be Captain Beatty; he believes books are overall nothing but a waste of time. As Faber says, books do in fact show the pores of life, but that is how we obtain our knowledge in the first place. It is true that books are not people, they definitely hold more value than people. The difference between society today and in the past is drastic. Although we continue to advance in technology, it is still important for us to learn about the importance of books, and how our future depends on the knowledge gained from them.
