Don Jon, the main antagonist of the play Much Ado About Nothing, is very chaotic character and knows it himself. I have created a spotify playlist that the character would listen to today for a project. "I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in his grace," this is the main reason that Don John causes conflict which is because he doesn't like the feeling of his brother having a higher authority than himself. "(Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow)" the lyrics ties into the thought of having a lower amount of power that Don John thinks and does have compared to his brother. "I don't want to change the world I just want to leave it colder," these lyrics represent the cold words presented by Jon Don while speaking to his henchmen Conrade and Borachio, "...if I had my liberty, I would do my liking." Both the quotation and the lyrics compare to each other in the sense that the main antagonist even with a higher authority than his brother would still use it as a destroying tool for his liking. In fact, Don Jon is probably amused by "playing" the villain that he had immediately came up with a plan to sabotage Claudio from obtaining a relationship with Hero instantly. "Tonight, we start the fire Tonight, we break away..." these lyrics show the basics to the antagonist's plans which is to start conflict and run off in case everyone realized that he was the one who started everything. "Don John is the author of all, who is fled and gone," the quote indicates that Don John's goes as planned as it represents that everyone figured out he planned everything that had occurred and been long gone once they finally realized, although he is caught in the end. Sometimes, even when chaos and destruction might be "the right" way to go words will ultimately be the real plan to go with because it has the best outcome for everyone.

For my project, I tried to show a make a modern interpretation of what Don John's digital footprint might be by making what Don John's digital footprint might look like using an Amazon shopping list and also showing his purchases and reviews. The main scenes I tried to capture through these products were these two scenes: 1.)When Don John first finds out that Claudio is about to get married to Hero and tries to break the couple up. The second being more overall the story and how Don John carries out his plan through his henchmen to set them up so they would be caught and he would be safe. One of the products I chose was a chess set because I feel it is more of a metaphorical representation of how Don John uses his henchmen to carry out the plan and even though he says--"...though I cannot be said to be a flattering honest man, it must not be denied but I am a plain dealing villain."--he still carries out his plans through others. So, is he less of an honest villain than he thinks? Most likely, but through out the story he feels like he is doing this and being the actual villain with no disguise, which he does, once,at the masquerade party and tells Claudio that Don Pedro is wooing Hero for himself. As he says this he wears no mask, making him an honest liar or villain one time while his main plot is carried out through steps through the help of his followers. (Borachio and Conrade) Which leads me on to my next item which a book of Romance and Crime this is also literal and metaphorical because this helps to better show that romance and crime are closely linked and that relationships affect crime. But before we go on let's think about why Don John is doing this. The reason is rather simple or complex, so Don John says why--"I had rather be a canker in a hedge than rose in his grace,"--which basically means that Don John feels at a lack of power and feels like he got the short end of the stick because Don Pedro is higher in power and Don John feels like he would rather get more power or not be in his presence at all, that really shows explains the relationship between Don Pedro and Don John and also shows why when everyone reaches the town at the beginning of the play Don John is the only one who doesn't talk to the townsfolk and only responds to Leonato who tries to thank him. Overall Don John's characterization throughout the storyline is ever static and whether Don John learns whether or not treachery is worth the power can only be inferred at the end of the play. Though it is likely he doesn't because he is still referred to as Sir John the Bastard. Who didn't notice the signs of treachery by Don John before is my guess. Anyway, Don John is shown as a less than honest villain even though he think of himself as an honest one with other people present. Don John also helped to greater bond the relationships of Claudio and Hero and Benedick and Beatrice by tearing apart Claudio and Hero's relationship. This affects not only Hero and Claudio but also,Beatrice,Leonato and Hero and Claudio. Because since Beatrice is the cousin of Hero she wants to get revenge on Claudio for Hero's supposed death by asking Benedick to--"Kill Claudio"--which better helps to strengthen their relationship when then find out Hero never died. Also, Claudio and Hero's relationship seemed to be increased afterwards too because Claudio realizes that he wrongly accused an innocent woman. So, in the end even though Don John is a villain his plan ultimately fails and helps to strengthen the main character's relationships making him less of a villian and even when he tries to escape he gets caught afterwards making his plan a complete failure for him but, a success for everyone else. That is my modern interpretation of Don John what his Amazon product search and purchases would look like.
