         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dr. Jones is a personality expert who studies how personality trail effect intelligence. For an experiment she uses the IQ scores of people who scored high in the "Big Five" personality factors - <strong>extraversion</strong> (also often spelled <strong>extroversion</strong>)<strong>, agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism. </strong>Each of the 5 factors are quasi-independent variable. Personality traits are inherent to everybody and each individual is born with his/her own. But this means that random assignment cannot be used. Participants will be assigned to groups based on their personality assessment scores across each of the 5 personality factors.&nbsp;<br><br>Now Dr. Jones can examine the impact of personality factors on intelligence.&nbsp;<br><br>If this was a true experimental design, each participant would be randomly assigned to each personality group regardless of whether they possessed those personality traits, which would not answer the question that Dr. Jones was asking. :)</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>It is conducted in the everyday environment of the participants, but the experimenter has no control over the independent variable (IV) - it cannot be changed unlike the natural experiment - it's based on existing difference between people (eg: age, gender etc.)<br><br>The dependent variable (DV) is naturally occurring or may be devised by the experimenter and it is measured in a field or lab. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Useful when it is unethical to manipulate the IV<br>- studies the "real effects" so there is increased realism and ecological validity - due to lack of involvement of the researcher and variables being naturally occurring, findings can be easily generalised to other 'real life' settings, resulting in high external validity.&nbsp;<br>- Quasi experiments are normally carried in controlled conditions and therefore share some strengths of lab experiments (replication).<br>- less expensive and requires fewer resources.<br>- logistically easy to conduct.<br>- often used in social research, the designs used in education to test the effectiveness of the program.<br>- control group comparisons possible.<br>- Quasi experiments offer the benefits of comparison between groups - the experimental group is exposed to the treatment and the control group receives no treatment.<br><br></div>]]></description>
