Hey Michelle, so far you've had two really excellent lessons! You're understanding the basics of piano just fine.

Here are a few pointers:
1. Remember where middle C is on the piano and on the sheet music. From there, it's pretty simple to figure out D and E on the right hand and B, A, and G in the left hand

2. In the music alphabet: we only have 7 letters that we need to know ONLY. A through G. After G, we go back to A.

3. Remember the different note values we have. the highest value we can have is 4. that belongs to a whole note. then we have half notes that are worth 2 counts. After that we have quarter notes that are worth 1.

Teaching Little Fingers to play: Play the first few songs right up to where the book teaches you how to play F.

Today, Bass clef notes:
Study the worksheet, all the lines and spaces and those clever little sentences! Its will help you tremendously in the future.

Octaves: Basically the distance from One Note to another is 8 (C to C is 8). No matter if you play it in the higher parts or lower parts.

Practice at Home: Air (surprise symphony). We learned about 8th notes and how to count them. We count them as 1 and 2 and.

By the Pond: Don't rush. If you rush the quarter notes, then those 8th notes

Sharp: Raises any note One Half of a step.

Steps: 2 kinds of steps: 1/2 is smallest step and Whole step which is 1 step.

Key Signatures: Appear where the clef and time signature are. If a sharp is present in the key signature, then any note that corresponds to the sharp in the key signature become sharp.

Scales: All seemed to be fine just keep practicing them. However, be careful with the notes so practice them with the book and then by memory. Careful with F major scale as your fingerings sometimes get messed up.
Chords and Cadences: Good just keep reviewing them.
Arpeggios: Very well done

The Band: Great job on memory. Be careful not to rush, and also remember the dynamics.
Under the Linder Tree: Careful with the rushing, no rushing!!!!!!! Try to use a metronome.
March On: Do not rush and add dynamics
Clown Dance: Add in those crescendo and decrescendos. Just make the transition smoother.
Recess: Practice slowly at first so you are able to get the measure that take you a longer time to get to. After you are able to play slowly, you can speed it up a bit to a comfortable tempo.
Dew Drops: Get the first two pages perfect, with the correct notes and octaves. Try it out slowly at first, and then once you are comfortable you can add the third page.

Scales: Good job on the major scales. Be careful with your minor scales, especially your fingerings. Be very careful with your F major and F minor with your fingerings for the right hand.

Chords and Cadences: Good job on the majors. Work on the minors but they were good as well.

Recess: Great job! Slowly first then speedit up a bit. There are some times when you tend to rush just slightly in the middle of the piece so careful. Don't forget your dynamics!

Dew Drops: Great work on memorization. Careful with measure 30, hold that out for three beats. Don't start rushing at the end of the second page!

Circle Dance: Practice the first two lines! Careful with your notes and fingerings. They sometimes don't coordinate.

The Robbers: Try out the first two lines. Don't ferget to count.

Chords and cadences: good work. Just fix the fingers for B major and minor.

Dew drops. Great work! Start using the soft pedal (left pedal) on the last line. Pay attention to the Fermata at the bottom of the 2nd page, and the "rit" symbol with means to slow down.

Circle Dance: whole first page hands together. 2ndo page hands separate.

Fiesta: Count the tempo, work on a few bars before entering a new bar to have a asmooth transition. Have the piece complete by the next lesson. Add dynamics. Always look a measure ahead to be prepared to play different patterns. Count rests.

A Gay Waltz: Count out Loud. Careful not slow down the 8th note passage.
Watch out for the left hand fingering. Have it complete at a slow tempo by next week. Then, add the dynamics. Fix rhythm.

El Torero: Have it complete han with the paper by next lesson. Do not do the repeats until the next lesson.

In The Swing: do not do the grace notes for now. Have it complete with hands together.

A Gay Waltz: Start playing both hands first page, practice separate hands the last page.

Scales - learn new inverted cadences major and minor

Chordal Fantasy - continue counting 1 2 3 4, make sure to play the second chord just a little quicker to make the piece more even.

measure 13-20 - make sure to count the notes properly, when your hand is moving over to the half notes, make sure to look at the notes on the piano to play it on time

measure 21-26, focus on the evenness, of the piece.

measure 27-28 - be careful on counting those measures

measure 29 - 33, play the second chord quicker

1. Chorda Fantasy: remember to add pedal and a little bit more dynamics throughout the piece. Review with the book when practicing to make sure your notes are correct - maybe work 2-3 lines at a time before running through the whole piece, don't rush ending (even 3 counts; remember the rhythm changes from measure 39 to end!)
2. Italian Song: have the first two lines hands together for next week; make sure you count nice & even (1+2+3+), add on the 3rd line hands separate (together if you can for next week), make sure you follow the fingering

Autumn Afternoon - We sight-read the first two lines hands separately. Keep practicing these two lines hands separate while counting (1 2 3 4 5 6) and then work on putting them hands together. The next two lines sight-read and play through hands separate. We will work on putting lines 3+4 hands together another time and move further in the piece.

Carnaval de Buenos Aires - Great job! Read through this piece about 4-5 times each time you go to practice it, the first 2-3 times with the book, and the last 2-3 times memorized. You got this! Also, work on adding in more expressive dynamics. Make your fortes louder and most importantly, make your pianos softer.
