Is education the gateway to happiness ?

Dated: 17/04/17

There have been some to have said that to have happiness one must attain an education. Education is one of the ways to have happiness but not the only way to attain such happiness. There’s been those who haven’t gotten any but have the world of happiness because they have made do with what they have and never let what they don’t have stop them from attaining their own happiness. As well as happiness is not certain with an education, education is only a means to happiness. As in the case of people who have not had much younger believe in them getting an education would afford them to get a good job that grant them to purchase things they couldn’t have before thinking they would gain happiness through material things they couldn’t have before. Only to later on find their life filled with material things but no happiness. It’s not bad to purchase material things as they afford some happiness but it is to not let it be the only thing and fill your life with other things. If one goes off of just getting a job based on monetary reasons then there will be no happiness to be derived. When getting an education, it is to get one that would lead you down a path of your passion so the old saying of ‘if you love what you’re doing you’ll never work a day in your life’ and in doing a job you like you derive happiness by just going to work every day.

Should the main purpose of education be to get a job ?

Dated: 18/04/17

The main purpose of an education should not be for the objective of getting a job. What getting a job should be classed as is the end product of an education. What education is, is used as the means by which one acquired a job. And before making any rash decisions based on outside influences of what some deem the best career or one where you get more money out of it. One should take into account their passions and then follow their passions into their education. So, when one is done pursuing their education of their liking then so to pursuing it into the job they seek employment in. What can be said of getting an education in order to get a job is that it is a matter of survival. Survival in the sense that one needs a job to be able to attain an income that will allow the person to purchase all necessities such as water, food etc. Survival also in the sense of self accomplishment where you’ve accomplished having an education and self-fulfilment where knowing waking up to a job to do even though there may be days where you think otherwise but it’s the thought of having a purpose and a direction in which to head. Education can be the way out for some people who are in trouble of being able to provide for themselves and others that may need be.

Is there a role for education in Caribbean nation building ?

There’s always room for improvement. Education can accomplish many things. Education can be a key role in Caribbean nation building. Countries in the Caribbean may be small compared to its counterparts, say America for instance. But that doesn’t mean it’s issues are any smaller than those affecting America. There are many issues plaguing Caribbean nations. Some issues affecting the Caribbean such as crime rate, education system in dire need of reform or economies that are at turmoil, poverty just to name a few. These issues don’t have to be permanent. First issue that needs immediate action is the education system. If one can reform it into a sound formidable education system that is up to standard can produce the solution to these issues. Have an education system that can produce critical free thinking person’s capable of looking at situations and taking advice to get the best solution possible. Being able to educate the minds of the future can help eliminate a number of issues plaguing the Caribbean. With just the issue of education fixed all other issues can be as well. And with these issues fixed can have Caribbean nation building. Where those issues are addressed and gone there is now development of the Caribbean and hopefully out of the state of third world becoming possibly first world.

Education in its purpose has the ability to achieve many things where nothing else can. An education when wielded right can accomplish many things. Aspects of education that drive this change is the learning and development it offers.

The Caribbean, a diverse melting pot of the world has a lot of potential. The current estimate of the Caribbean population is equivalent to 0.58 % of the total world population. That’s not even a whole 1%, it’s much less but that doesn’t mean the Caribbean can have any less of an impact than the bigger ball players in the world that are more highly populated. The littlest of people can make the biggest of change.

If the Caribbean wants to participate in this utopia world one is hoping for then the Caribbean must make a change, a positive change for the better and betterment of one’s people. And for this change to happen the education needs to be looked at. With a formidable education system in hand this positive change can happen. Education can be used for change starting from person to country then leading to nation.

Initially going into this course, I thought of it being just another history subject to do and why after having did it in school do I still have to. Though going through it all it was later found to open eyes to the misconceptions made popular as well as made known some crucial facts that would help further expand on one’s knowledge of their background and where they come from. Having that knowledge is important for someone to form that sense of identity more so a country.

Caribbean civilization has helped a lot in that sense of identity and keeps me moving on as I know the hardships of the past, that way the future can be even better.
