One example of this is marijuana. According to https://statelaws.findlaw.com/louisiana-law.html "lawmakers finally passed a law in 2017 establishing protections for patients and caregivers, procedures, and other legal mechanisms for the medical use of cannabis in Louisiana. The law doesn't allow home cultivation of the herb, but authorizes the establishment of up to 10 licensed pharmacies for the procurement of medical cannabis"  This shows that Louisiana has legalized medical marijuana as a state, with its legislature, but if its legislative branch didn't exist, it would have to rethink this and many more laws. If there was only one part of government that had all of the power then the government could become corrupt, and wouldn't function as well.  For example with three branches of government,  according to louisiana.gov "The governor has the right to grant reprieves, issue pardons, commute sentences, and return fines and forfeitures for crimes against the state." This shows an example of the executive branch checking the judicial branch so that if the judicial branch makes a bad decision, or start to abuse their power, the executive branch can check them, which limits their power.
