I believe this essay implied many citizens are born in different countries and want to make their lives better by coming to the US. In the story Jolene questions her father if they are aliens but he explains to her they are not. Sancho tells her they are from both cultures and should not be ashamed. They are human and should not be treated differently despite their background. Even though they may be illegal immigrants , they still appreciate American culture as well as their own. 

Many people born in a country with a different heritage are taunted for where they came from causing them to be called aliens and being taken the privilege of being a human. This story implies even with a different heritage people should not discriminate and call others aliens because they deserve to be in the country just like them and it is disrespectful. In this story it provides how the family is the first generation in the country. 

In the story Eduviges family adopts a new culture and tradition such as thanksgiving. This story main focus is how people from different ethnicities and from different heritages are discriminated and are called aliens which take the right of a human. In the story when Sancho gets angry with Josie and states “I do not ever want to hear you use that word in my presence again.” it provides the disrespect of people who have different heritages. Also, the paragraph illustrates how naive and racist people can be just for the color of others skin tone, such as Josie.
