I firstly found one about skaters, which were called "surfers with no sea" (I find that very accurate), but the two that were mostly interesting for me were about indie and goths. The story about indie explained how the movement started, what were hey interested in, what music they liked and who they took inspiration from in the UK. I was surprised with the amount of information they have in there and so many historical documents. I found out about a lot of facts about the university, a lot of things that I didn't know. I just think that I will stick with the Youth Culture archive. I was considering it for my project and this workshop taught me how to use rise print in an easier and quicker way. I didn't know you could separate the colors on photoshop and then print them, it's so much easier than what I was used to do and this will make the whole process much quicker. I found a few books, but mostly one, called “Goth Bible”, which was extremely helpful as it had everything I needed to know inside. It helped to find out about everything Goths believe in. It was great because it was easier to then draw for my zine, it was easier to draw what kind of shoes they wear, the makeup and hairstyles, clothes, accessories... I will just do a four page zine to see how it works, what I can add in the future, what I can modify, what I like and what I don’t. I do like the idea I had but I think it will take more time to develop what I’m thinking to achieve. I still think I want to riso print it as that’s the effect I’m trying to achieve. I need to practice more on full body drawing, I want to add a lot more outfits as at the moment three is not enough. I also want to include more collages, which makes me think that maybe A4 is not the best size and maybe i should go for something slightly bigger so I could fit everything I want in it. I thought I wanted to create something not only for the zine but also to create some prints. I don't have many resources at home so I thought the easiest way to do this was creating potato stencils. I cut out a bat and spider shape and then used acrylics paint to print them. I printed a few stencils around the zine and then created a print with the two mixed together. It was one of my favourite projects to create. I did a lot of development from the first draft. Not only I worked with a new typeface and collages but I also included more illustrations and tried to modify the ones previously created to make them more detailed. I decided to colour them with watercolours as I didn't want to have too many bright colours. I love how the potato stencils look and I also added some safety pins around the zine (mostly because it's what Goths used to wear as an accessory). I would love to still be able to riso print it once we're allowed back at university, I want to see how it could have looked.
