Spend 15 minutes exploring the collections of toys held at the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood. Set up a Word.doc and complete the following tasks:

1. Find 2 examples of wooden toys. Copy and paste these into your word.doc. What woodworking techniques can you see have been used? Can you see evidence that the designer has used similar tools or techniques as you have? (type up your answers on the same word.doc)

2. Find 3 examples of toys aimed at very young children aged 2 - 4 years. Copy and paste these into your word doc. What similarities can you see between these toys in terms of their design?
What do you think the purpose is of these toys?
How has the designer designed this toy to be safe for young children?

Using google, research vintage toy advertisements. copy and paste 2 examples into your word.doc

1. How have the graphic designers tried to target children?

2. what mood do these advertisements have and how do you think the designers have tried to create that mood? use arts language such as colour, shape, expression etc in your answer.

PRACTICAL TASK:

Set up an A4 page in Photoshop (remember how we did this in our portraiture task) If you get stuck, ask students who remember to assist (Jordan!)

using photoshop tools, design an advertisement for your pull along toy. This advertisement shoul aim to catch the eyes of children in your target audience and communicate all the great features of your toy. Leave a large space in the middle of the page for you to draw your finished toy later.

Include:
1. A name for your toy (catchy and easy to remember!)
2. At least 3 lines of text describing your toy's features
3. One line stating what age the toy is intended for

Remember to use a lot of colour and interesting fonts!
