In my block practise, I gave my students a worksheet called「初見工作紙」in my first lessons. There were some questions on it, e.g. please introduce yourself, what is your strengths/weaknesses in Chinese, what is your hobbies, what do you want to tell me, etc. Although most of them wrote few things about their strengths and weaknesses, they were very willing to introduce themselves by what they like, e.g. some of them like classical music and I could mention it in class for examples, some of them invited me to play PUBG together and I could talk to them more through the games. Moreover, some sweet girls told me that they liked my powerpoint and my voice was enough to not use the mic. Know more about my students helped me know how to catch their attention in class. When I followed their good advice, they would also know that the teacher were really care about their needs. However, there must be some advice which were impossible to do (e.g. no homework and play kahoot every lessons) but I could still understand what they like or don't like so that I could make my teaching more attractive.

I agree that personal experiences of learning are intertwined with teaching practice. As I am a student teacher, I realize that my experiences when I was a student, such as feeling bored or engaged, will influence my approach to teaching. It is because I can be in students' shoes and understand what methods or activities are interesting or even effective. I can better understand and empathize with my students and adjust my teaching strategies to meet their needs.

I would like to choose Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction because it gives a complete and structured framework for me to design clear and coherent lessons. Also, I think this framework focuses more on engaging students as it first gains students' attention and stimulate their piror knowledge. Positive feedback is also emphasized to motivate students. Moreover, assessing performance helps students consolidate their understanding and connect new information with existing knowledge.

• Colleagues: How have your colleagues’ experiences influenced you?

I aspire to be a teacher who is both close to students and maintains authority. Before my block practice began, I observed my supporting teacher's lesson. I noticed that students were willing to answer questions and even share their personal experiences during her lessons. When discussions became too intense, she could easily redirect students' attention back to her with just a few simple sentences. I asked her for advice on how to become like her. She explained that authority takes time to build but suggested starting with a more serious and affirming tone while allowing students to share. I also observed another supporting teacher who could only maintain the former aspect of authority. When a student continuously shouted out her thoughts, he initially tried to stop it and ended up giving her a time-out. Taking the advice of the first supporting teacher, I attempted to connect the student's shouted answers to the lesson content. If it was unrelated, I promised her that I would listen to her sharing after class. I found this approach to be effective. Therefore, I think colleagues' experiences, regardless of whether they were positive or negative, have provided valuable insights for my teaching practice.

There are some examples:

• substitute written assignments with online platforms or apps to simplify the submission and grading process.

• combine traditional teaching with multimedia, e.g. photos or videos, to gain students' attention

• modify some homework submission way: students can choose to write, draw, say, etc

• reverse the roles of teaching which let students to explain or present the concepts to their classmates

I don't think I am a creative person at all. (So it is so surprising that I got high marks on this test but I think it is not testing creativity XD) It is very very difficult for me to give some new ideas or even think out of the box. According to today's PPT, I think I am more like a sustainer and planner as I hate risks and changes and I like that everything can be controlled based on others or my experiences. (I think it is something similar to the second word S or N in MBTI :P)

1. What are your preferences in selecting a student-centred approach, a teacher-centred approach, or a mixed model? How would you combine these approaches?

   
   

   My preference is to select a mixed model as this approach combines both student-centred and teacher-centred approaches which aligns with the discussion of the article about the management of teaching and discipline. Article B mentioned that the 21st-century teaching and learning skills emphasize student engagement. The student-centred approach can promote student autonomy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Besides, a good learning environment also needs to be created by teachers as they have the role to lead students and manage their discipline. Thus a teacher-centred approach is also important for providing knowledge, skills, guidance, etc.

   To combine these approaches, teachers should set clear learning goals and provide clear guidance for discussions or problem-solving tasks, which foster student engagement. There should not be only one model answer for those activities. Teachers should give proper feedback and lead students to think about more ideas.

   The rationale behind choosing a mixed approach is that the 21st-century teachers are required to be more of a guide. Teachers nowadays are expected to create an effective learning environment that addresses students' diverse needs and promotes more academic achievement and healthy social relationships between them.

   
   

Your personality traits and character + How you want students to remember you = Teaching persona

My learning experiences have shaped my empathy and understanding as a teacher. I understand that a harsh teacher won't be liked by students which causes low effectiveness in teaching. After the block practice, I also understood that it is never easy to be a good teacher. I want to be a mixed-mode of student- and teacher-centred teacher I hope I can maintain my authority as a teacher without restricting students' freedom to learn and create. I want my students to remember me for my interesting class, in which creativity and discussions will never be restricted.

I actively ask students for their opinions and feedback on my teaching by considering their perspectives. I collect their feedback through 初見工作紙, class discussions, etc. I will consider all the feedback received and make adjustments to my teaching accordingly. However, not all the feedback may be feasible. If the students' feedback is meant as a joke, I won't listen to it or respond. However, some seemingly impractical feedback might indicate a need for certain teaching methods, and in those cases, I will make appropriate adjustments.

I will ask trusted colleagues who have experience and knowledge, e.g. my supervisor, class teacher, or even my university professors. I will seek their advice mostly about teaching approaches, class dynamics and classroom management as I am weak at these aspects. I will approach them respectfully and humbly, either through informal conversations, class observation, or even through digital platforms. I will clearly explain the specific areas where I need help and give them more information on my personality, teaching approaches and students' situation to help them understand the situation better. I also understand that not all suggestions may be suitable for my teaching style or class. I will consider the feasibility of the suggestions and adopt those that align with my situation and that I can handle. I will incorporate the valuable aspects of the suggestions into my teaching practice.

I love that you tried your best to make the lessons funnier, e.g. using more videos, doing case study, etc. to explain some boring theories. I also like that you let us use Chinese to answer as I am not confident in English >< And the most important thing is I love your snacks every lessons!!

However, I might run into problems like lack of time or resources as I need time to fully understand every student's strengths and make plans or teaching approaches to ensure that I can fully utilize their strengths.
