Gerry, Ate Beth, and Ate Merlinda. Highlights were:

1. The Amorantos still pay for the yearly amortization of the land and expressed that they would still use it someday. Hence, the threat of eviction to the community is highly present.
2. There are no officers yet in SAMA. The officers reported to us are those of the JCOS.
3. A new CBO led by Myra was established in Amoranto and was recognized by the DAR Municipal Office. They are aiming to secure the land through CLOA process. Gian will interview Myra, Jhoie will discuss with Rudy Dayo, Clare will pursue the interview with Sir Tex or other JCOS member, and Joneil will talk to purok leader/s.
2. Hold a kumustahan session with the SAMA members.

Key Points from Chat with Jerry Matias

1. The barangay profiling is ongoing and so far they have identified 396 families. Capt. Jerry remarked how fast the community is growing after being only at around 200 families in 2019. Capt. Jerry started as Kagawad in 1998, served as OIC Chairperson in 2012, won as Chairperson in 2013 and has been in power unchallenged since.

2. The Amoranto community occupies a large land and started only with one family from Cavite that served as caretakers for the owners. They eventually expanded to 20 houses, as estimated by Capt. Jerry, when the caretakers started invited relatives. They were actually the only people in this area because Towerville was still not established at that time. Some parts of Amoranto have been deemed unsafe by the City, which led to 13 families to be relocated to Towerville.

3. The demographic of the community is mixed with some three-storey houses and middle- to lower-middle class families. These families were able to buy rights to build their house in Amoranto through Raul Dayo. The tenants are what Capt. Jerry considers as the most vulnerable; often being used by "seasonal leaders" who, like Dayo, needs the the social influence to mobilize his business of (illegally) selling land rights to tenants and outsiders.

4. Although Raul Dayo, and probably his family, is one of the older tenants in Amoranto, Capt. Jerry still recognizes the Pillerva Family as the oldest - led by Miguel "Tata Miguel" Pillerva who Capt. Jerry appointed as Purok Leader there. Tata Miguel's daughter, Myra, organized a separate group from Dayo with the aim (as per Capt. Jerry) of simply helping those in Amoranto. Myra is not into the business of selling land but is organizing household for their application for Certificate of Land Ownership Awards from the City Agrarian Reform Office of San Jose del Monte City.

5. In terms of participation, the Amoranto community was active during the distribution of Covid-19 relief, the government vaccination drive, the regular monitoring of Brgy Health Workers, and the barangay-led feeding program. Very few are registered voters in Minuyan Proper since majority are either tenants or bought land rights (from Raul Dayo) to build their weekend/secondary house.

6. His final message for the community is not to believe campaigns to occupy Amoranto because owners are updated in their government taxes. He said he would advice the people not to add more households because it will make it more difficult once the owners decide to utilize their land. The community should not get their hopes up from the land surveying for their CLOA application (which he sees as a government modus to extract money from applicants). He stressed that at the end of this activity, the City ARO will always have to consult the barangay on the ownership status of the land and that Capt. Jerry will just say their is an owner and they are not delinquent in their government obligations.
