An IBM Success Story: Rodney Adkins. When I was in the military all my supervisors always told me that it was important to have a mentor to help me with my advancement and job performance. The article in the textbook was just reinforcement that that applies in any job you have. It's always important to have someone help provide insight on what could be best for your future at whatever company or profession you decide to go into.

Henri Fayol's "14 Principles of Management" have been a significant influence on modern management theory. His practical list of principles helped early 20th century managers learn how to organize and interact with their employees in a productive way.

Although the 14 Principles aren't widely used today, they can still offer guidance for today's managers. Many of the principles are now considered to be common sense, but at the time they were revolutionary concepts for organizational management.

Steve Jobs CEO
I believe Steve Jobs is one of the best CEO’s because he was able to bring new ideas that were unheard of at the time and make a company that is one of the world’s most valuable companies. There is a rhetorical question I have heard a lot in my life “would you rather be feared or loved?” No matter what you do there will always be someone who doesn’t like it. If you are too relaxed then people see a soft spot and try to take advantage. If you are too hard on people then they let personal feelings get in the way and you can miss out on a lot opportunity. It a double edged sword that is tough to be what everyone wants. I think that Steve Jobs had a vision and he believed in what he was doing and would do anything to accomplish it. After reading the articles there are several occasions that make Steve Jobs sound like a jerk but he was only doing what he had to, and it paid off. I personally may not agree with his behavior towards employees but he was a very effective manager and CEO.
