Once patronized by the emperors, Sumo's origins go back to 1,500 years. Making it the world's oldest organized sport. It probably evolved out of Mongolian, Chinese and Korean wrestling. In its long history sumo has gone through many changes and many of the rituals that go along the sport that seem old were in fact conceived in the 20th century.

Training is very important when it comes to sumo. it is key to have: Flexibility, the best sumo wrestlers are limber, enabling them to adapt to opponents’ movements. Suppleness also protects from injuries. Balance, the essence of sumo competition is maintaining balance, and shifting weight, while under pressure. Stance, sumo emphasizes a low center of gravity, so all wrestlers work at powerful movements, while knees are bent, and upper body tucked in. Those are only a few of the key goals in sumo.
Some techniques in sumo are: YORI-KIRI (front force-out)
Get a grip on your opponent and push him straight out of the ring. It’s critical to lock up tightly with your opponent to control him as you push.
TSURI-DASHI (lift-out)
Using your opponent’s belt, lift him in the air and take him out of the ring. Thant is a few of several techniques.
The dohyo is the ring in which sumo wrestling bouts are held. A modern dohyo is a circle of rice-straw bales 4.55 meters in diameter, mounted on a square platform of clay 6.7m on a side, and 34 to 60 cm high. The surface is covered by sand.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumo

In Sumo, a mawashi is the belt that the rikishi wears during training or in competition. Upper ranked professional wrestlers wear a Kesho-mawashi. The hair is an important part of sumo. The chonmage is inspired by the Samurai hairstyle of the 8th century, when men were expected to wear long hair or risk being associated with less hirsute criminals. The look has gone in and out of fashion, during the Edo period when Samurai ruled over Japan, and out of vogue after the country’s first brush with short-haired Westerners but sumo wrestlers, or rikishi continue to wear a version of the top knot today. The best sumo wrestler all-time is Hakuhō Shō. the second best is Asashōryū Akinori. The third best is Harumafuji Kōhei.
