It is important for nurses to be culturally sensitive. Nurses have to interact with patients from many different cultures. One of the main reasons I believe it is important to be sensitive is it helps build trust with the patient. If I can show the patient that I respect their beliefs and values they may trust me more. Building this trust will help me provide them with better care and treatment options that go along with their culture.

Nurses should always try and respect the patients dignity. Doing so not only shows that you are a respectful compassionate nurse but it gives the patient worth. If you respect the patient they will feel like they have some independence and control in their life. Showing them respect will help build a connection with them and not just make them feel like another body laying in a bed on your shift. Making a patient feel valued and heard will go a long way in making their care better.

Making sure these are followed will help build trust and make the patient feel valued. These are vital to the nurse and patient relationship.
