Trump Signs Executive Order Unwinding Obama Climate Policies

President Trump is rolling back Obama's Clean Power Plan. He has emphatically stated that he will not be following the agreements of the Paris Agreement. He is doing this in order to create jobs in the coal industry. Trump is receiving backlash from foreign power such as France and from within the US Congress, mainly from democrats. He seems to be ignoring climate change as an issue completely.
This is extremely significant. The Trump adminstration is doing very little if anything to fight climate change. Since the United States is such a large producer of C02 and other green house gasses, this could lead to drastic problems due to accelerated climate change. However legally, undoing all enviromental protections as it looks like Trump wants to do would be nearly impossible.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/28/climate/trump-executive-order-climate-change.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Fscience&action=click&contentCollection=science&region=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=7&pgtype=sectionfront&_r=0

A Sprinkle of Seaweed Could Deflate Gassy Cows

A huge contributor to climate change is the methan released by cows. Some of it comes in the form of farting but most comes in the form of burping. According to the article "About 14.5 percent of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions come from livestock". This is due to the bateria in the cow's stomach used to digest food. Scientists have found that when livestock eat certain typed of seaweed with their feed, their indivudal methan output is cut by 99%. The chemcials in seaweed interfere with the process of methan production in the digestive system of livestock.
This has potential to be groundbreaking. We know the impact of livestock on the enviroment but the vast majority of people still insist on eating dairy and beef. If this seaweed solution could be implemented there'd be a massive reduction in greenhouse gasses. Only 2% seaweed relative to the rest of the feed is required. Still, we will not see this on a large scale soon because there is not nearly enough seaweed produced annually.

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/people-and-culture/food/the-plate/2016/11/seaweed-may-be-the-solution-for-burping-cows/

As bee populations dwindle, robot bees may pick up some of their pollination slack

It's no secret in enviromental circles that bee populations are declining rapidly. Without them, many crops are suffering. There simply isn't enough pollinators. A group of japanese scientists has come up with a drone that could do some of this work. Horsehairs and a special gel formula are attached to a drone with then pick up pollen and distribute it to the plants.
While creative, even the scientists admit this will likely never be able to replace bees entirely. However, it is more efficient than hand pollinization and other techniques such as pollen ejecting guns. Hopefully, this device could be made practical enough to use on a large scale on farms that are experiencing probelms with pollination. This should not take away urgency in the fight to save bees.

http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-robot-bees-20170209-story.html

German Scientists Just Tested the 'World's Largest Artificial Sun'

Renewable energy from the sun seems to be the way of the future. However, some areas donn't get enough sunlight to make that option feasible. Scientists in germany have constrcuted what is being decfibed as a "honeycomb" of lamps to simulate solar radiation by focusing it on a 8 in by 8 in area. It's an experiment to attempt to ake hydrogen and use it as fuel. It's been done on a smaller scale before.
The goal is to eventually accmplich this using regular sunlight instead of the lamps, which require huge amount of electricty. If we are able to make hydrogen easily, we'd have a fuel that release 0 carbon emissions. We are very far from actually implenting hydrogen as an energy source in most devices. For now, scientists are just trying to master hydrogen production. Science is slow but the potential pay off will be worth it.

http://time.com/4710726/germany-artificial-sun/

Manatees downgraded from 'endangered' to 'threatened' species

According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service manatees are no longer endangered. They've been moved to threatened status. There are now over 6,000 Florida Manatees compared to the couple hundred that there were in 1973. This is good news for most casual onlookers however many manatee enthusiasts are upset. They claim that reclassifying manatees will prevent them from getting the resources to protect them in the long term.
Manatees are adored by everyone with a heart and are an important part of their ecosystem. It's good news that manatee populations ahve increased like they have. With all the coming enviromental deregualtion it may have been short sighted to remove them from the endangered list so quickly.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/science/ct-manatees-endangered-species-20170331-story.html

Thousands of pollution deaths worldwide linked to western consumers – study

American Manuacturers ofetn produce in foregn countries becase i's cheaper and easier. Not only are minimum salaries lower, there are also less regulations including enviromental ones. These unregulated factories produce lots of pollution and in turn deaths. A recent study found that 22% of the 3.5 million air pollution related deaths "are associated with goods and services that were produced in one region for consumption in another."
Many deaths from developing countries are due to air pollution from factories. This makes western consumers thousands of miles away indirectly respinsible. This is a hard truth to face for people who just want a good deal. Most people don't even think about it. People should reserach the goods they buy before they buy them in order to avoid this.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/mar/29/western-consumers-fuelling-tens-of-thousands-of-air-pollution-related-deaths
