         <description><![CDATA[<div>The New Right is a Conservative political perspective.<br>New Right thinkers favour the marketisation of education.<br>They argue that the state takes a 'one size fits all' approach.<br>They believe that competition between schools and the laws of supply and demand will empower consumers, bringing greater diversity, choice and efficiency to schools.<br>A03: Gerwitz and Ball argue that competition between schools benefit the middle-class pupils.<br>Chubb and Moe argue that an education market would put control in the hands of the consumers. This would allow them to shape schools to meet their own needs and improve the quality and efficiency.<br>To achieve Marketisation and parentocracy various ideas were introduced:<br>1. Standard Assessment tests<br>2. National Curriculum<br>3. League Tables<br>4. OFSTED<br>5. Prospectuses<br>New Right believe that education should affirm the national identity.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Marxism</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Bowles and Gintis argue that capitalism requires a workforce with the kinds of attitudes, behaviour and personality types suited to their role as alienated and exploited workers willing to accept hard work, low pay and orders from above.<br>They argue that there are close parallels between school and work in capitalist society:<br>both of them have hierarchies&nbsp;<br>both of them have rules about dress<br>people work for end rewards in both areas<br>This is referred to the 'correspondence principle' and this operates schools in schools through the hidden curriculum.<br>They describe the education system as a myth making machine with the myth being the myth of meritocracy.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Pupil Subcultures</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A subculture is a group within a wider group which to some extent has distinctive values, attitudes and lifestyle to the mainstream.<br>According to Hargreaves a subculture forms because pupils fail to gain status legitimately within school so they choose to gain it in another way.<br>Pro-school subcultures<br>Anti-school subcultures <br>Mac an Ghail identified 5 different types of subcultures<br>1. Academic Achievers <br>2. Macho Lads<br>3. New Enterprisers<br>4. Real Englishmen <br>5. Gay Students<br>Griffin found that when girls form subcultures, their opposition of school took the form of an 'exaggerated femininity', which emphasised the importance of boyfriends, rather than academic success.<br>Griffin found that there were 3 routes for girls<br>1.
