Analysis #1- drugs

In Fahrenheit 451 there are several examples that show when drugs were being used. “ You took all the pills in your bottle last night” ( Bradbury 17). Mildred took the whole bottle of sleeping pills. From reading the book I inferred they were sleeping pills as it said I slept so sound that night, and by not remembering what Mildred had taken. Also, a side effect for drugs as well as depression symptoms because one symptom that is related to memory loss. Montag has said, “Will you bring me aspirin and water” ( Bradbury 46)? This quote is saying how Montag is not really sick his anxiety is just overtaking him. So he wants to take medicine to try to get rid of the stress and anxiety. There are a couple symbols that represents drugs throughout the book. One symbol that would go along with the theme is fire. Fire resembles death and torture. This also goes along with drugs; drugs can lead to death as it is very dangerous. The torture part of that goes along with drugs as it is not pleasant for others to watch people do drugs. Another symbol is bombs. The bombs and drugs could go hand in hand. They both serve as combustible items. Bombs are very bad and can hurt someone. Just like drugs can hurt someone and ruin there life as well.

Analysis #2- unhappiness

In Fahrenheit 451 there is lots of unhappiness. Ray Bradbury has a special type of writing to his book that sets the atmosphere to unhappiness. “ Oh now I’ve upset you”said Millie (Bradbury 20). That goes hand and hand with unhappiness. When you are unhappy you always think you have made that person mad.Where in the story Montag was constantly worrying about upsetting others. Another example, would be “ All isn't well with the world” , said Montag (Bradbury 100). In the book they stated that because as there is no happiness in their society. Montag has said that they are afraid of making mistakes in the world. He said there is no peace left in the world or happiness. A symbol that may contradict the subject would be “The Family”. Family is supposed to be loving and always together. Family may also mean that you are very close to others. In the book, it seems as they are all drifting from each other.”The Family” is a television show that gives Mildred entertainment and gets her mind of the bad things going on in the world and makes her feel like a family. When Montag became very ill Mildred didn't bother to check in on him or anything, she was more concerned about “The Family” TV show. An example is, “ Will you turn the parlor of? That's my family. Will you turn it off for a sick man” said Montag ( Bradbury 46). Another symbol that may go along with unhappiness is planes. Planes were objects in the book that symbolized unhappy thoughts. These thoughts were the loud noises the planes or jets that made people believe it could be a war. War was always an unpleasant time so that is why planes would be a big symbol.

In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Demonstrates how someone with depression or anxiety could start to isolate themselves. “ Let me alone” said Millie( Bradbury 49). Mildred has said this because she is feeling like she wants no part in anyone anymore. She has basically isolated herself from her husband as they show no meaning towards each other. She has isolated herself and mainly only lives through her TV show “ The Family”. She spends her time only watching that and living the moments of it. Another example is, “” I want you to do this job all by your lonesome” (Bradbury 109). This is an example of how the characters were trying to force Montag to reject books, and to do his work by isolating him by himself. After he has completed his jobs by himself he may be able to reenter himself in society. A symbol that is presented in the book is seashells. For example, “ She was an expert at lip reading from ten years of apprenticeship at seashell ear thimbles” (Bradbury 16). The characters in Fahrenheit 451 use the seashells as headphones. So the seashells could be used to ignore others and that can be a cause of the isolation. Another symbol would be Millie. Millie is meant to be gentle, a baby name, living the spirit and strength. In the book she is very isolated from others, has odd relationships with others and doesn't live with the spirits.

One of the problems with today's society is we have an addiction to drugs. In 2018 society when we always feel upset, sad and unhappy with ourselves we want a quick fix. Which in today's world that quick fix can sometimes be a drugs. In the book Depression,” Antidepressants do not work the same for every patient. Which drug or combinations of drugs will work best in each case is not always clear” , Lydia Bjornlund stated. (Bjornlund 49). When the medication doesn't work the same for every patient, patients have the need to take more of it until it suits their needs. In teenagers the most common drug they are abusing is cocaine. The national institute of mental health claims It is the easiest drug to buy as it's called a “street drug” (Anxiety Disorders). In the article Depression Screening it states the side effects of depression is, “ Thoughts of death or suicide” (“Depression Screening.). The thoughts of death or suicide often come from doing or being on drugs the department of screening have concluded. Depression can lead to some scary thoughts and make people do things they will regret in life. For instance drugs. Drugs can be something that is very scary to deal with.

Everyone has somehow experienced some sort of feeling where they feel sad, upset or even mad at themselves. Depression is a worldwide problem in the United States. Depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the country. “Depression is more than just feeling sad. Everyone feels upset or unmotivated from time to time, but depression is more serious” stated by psych center since 1986 (Depression Central ). When someone is unhappy they are only unhappy for short period of time. Depression causes someone to always be mad, upset or sad all the time. “depression include continual sadness and a loss of interest in activities that a person normally enjoys” (Depression: Symptoms). When someone is unhappy they typically don't lose interest in activities. When someone alway is constantly unhappy with themself then those people start to form an illness called depression. Also the institute describes, “With that in mind, many people experience more than one type of mental health disorder, often in different degrees.( Depression). When people have known that they are having several mental disorders then the population in the United States become very unhappy with themself.

When someone has become depressed they tend to start removing themselves from others and activities. Tanja explains that if you have anxiety or depression it is never going away, “In an anxiety-related disorder, your fear or worry does not go away and can get worse over time” (Jovanovic). When people keep worrying over their problems they start to isolate themselves far from everyone. Research has found the more you disinclude yourself from others the more depressed you are. “prolonged feelings of sadness and loss of interest in daily activities” (“Depression Central). When people have a mental illness they don't want to be out in public and they just want to be away from others. A neuroplastic research has shown what anxiety can do to others. “Anxiety can also negatively impact relationships and keep one from engaging in social environments” (Advanced). When a person is so worked up with anxiety or stress or even depression it can lead to several bad things. For example when a person tries to isolate themselves from others, statistics have shown that it ruins relationships(Advanced). When someone first acknowledges something is wrong with someone, that person needs to no back away and not let them isolate themselves.(Health). Isolations is a scary thing as people will not get the help that's needed if they stay isolated forever.
