I read the article linked to your positive post number 2. The first thing I would like to say is that I wholeheartedly agree with you that interracial relationships are perfectly acceptable. I'm actually quite shocked that something like 28% of people in the first survey responded negatively to the idea of interracial relationships. I was under the impression that that sort of racism was uncommon nowadays. I can't believe that people still think that race says anything definitive about a persons personality, behavior, or really anything about them other than heredity. In my mind, the only thing that skin color says about a person is where their ancestors came from.

I agree with you. I think it is great that you feel this way, despite what your other family members may think. I can relate. Some of my family also views this as taboo. After reading your second article, I'm glad to see that our views on interracial marriage have progressed since 1986.

I completely agree with what Positive 2 has to say. Especially when it said, "...is a society that’s easier for everyone to live in. Most of us will be in the minority at some point, whether it’s because of race, sex, gender or something else.

As we edge away from being a country that judges first and fast on physical characteristics alone, we become, I hope, a less judgmental culture overall. And less judgement could mean a lot of things for our children: less bullying, fewer assumptions about their interests and abilities based on their appearance and gender and less need to fit all the little round and square pegs into all the right holes." Goes to show that maybe the numbers aren't as high as some people would like with interracial marriages but we are human, we can change things. At some point we all go through something.

I brought this up as a positive source earlier but it contained some negatives within the article. It depicts why some people get into interracial relatioships and why it is a negative thing to do. It also states that it is economically benefitial for the minority within the relationship. It is the same link as Positive Post No. 1

I feel that many people are hurt by one race so they prefer one over the other because of the pain one person caused them. This hurt is what I feel causes people to say they won't date a certain type of race or they were raised to believe a certain race was undatable and evil.

I think because of our history with racism in the U.S. many people still prefer to be around people who are similar to them. I think it makes some people uncomfortable when they do see interracial couples because they still have the past predugices in their heads. I personally think it doesn't make a difference and like you said in you bio "we all bleed red" and I think this also brings the same issue with gay couples and marriage but I won't get in to that ;)

One: I found out that we as Americans made the holiday into something that it wasn't.

Two: The date was significant because it was when Mexico fought off the French.

Three: News reporters actually apologized for making fun or Lessing the value of the holiday.

I think that many people naturally identify with their own race better. Often times, we see one large group of people of the same race. This isn't because they are racist. They simply identify with one another. I think the same thing goes for relationships. Many people subconsciously choose a partner from their own race. They aren't necessarily trying to make a pure race.

I'm sure there are people who don't marry outside of their race due to prejudices, but just like Andrew said, people are more inclined to marry those they identify with. This same concept can be applied to people who are in interracial relationships. Nine out of ten times you will find that one or both of them grew up with, or is very used to individuals of the opposite race. So with that said I don't think MOST people are seeking to establish a "pure" or "perfect" race.

I agree with Karefa about the interracial relationships, and I can provide first hand evidence. I grew up around all white kids pretty much all of the time so I have always been more attracted to that race than my own. Not that I don't find black women attractive, but I just have always been more attracted to and dated white girls.
