I teach because I want to be a part of the next generation of growing kids. I value making connections and finding new ways to lead students. I want to be able to impact kids at Great Bend High School in the way that I was!

john_popp1 — 2025-08-05 20:33:26 UTC

I chose to become a teacher because of my deep passion for history. I truly love everything about it, from the stories of the past to the lessons it teaches us today, and my goal is to pass that love on to my students. Even if I reach just one student, I want to spark that same curiosity and appreciation for history that my own teachers once inspired in me. My hope is to be a lasting impact in someone’s life, helping them connect with the past in meaningful and transformative ways.

I teach littles to give back what I was given as a young student. I grew up in a single-parent household (my mom is a saint), and my teachers were nothing but caring and supportive individuals that helped me and my siblings through! I owe it to each and every one of them for teaching us perseverance.

I grew up with a brother that was diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety and Tourette syndrome. It’s something I’ve always been around and I tend to connect with students with exceptionalities. I want to make a difference in these students lives by being a resource to them.

I teach because my classroom and my kids are my ministry. How can I show God’s love to students who don’t get it from anyone? How can I make my students feel safe? How can I make my students feel seen? All the while teaching them foundational material to grow their tiny minds!!

I got into teaching for the aha moments! Sharing what you know, and explaining a dozen different ways sometimes, just for the light bulb 💡.

Why do I want to teach?

john_popp1 — 2025-08-05 20:33:26 UTC

I’ve always enjoyed being in the classroom as a student and the environment that school has provided for me - and Ive simply wanted to stay in it. And when I found out I can still be the class clown and teach, I was all in. I also love Choir and the joys it can bring to life - I want to share that.

My 4th grade teacher was one of the only stable persons in my life during a very bumpy time. Students lives can be rough and I want to be able to provide them with that one stable person when they need it.

I teach because of the importance behind our interactions with students. We have the chance to be the only positive interaction in a students day. We also can bring out a love for learning in them that will shape their future.

As a Pre-K teacher I want to capture the excitement and innocence of our youngest students and give them a solid foundation and love for learning! There is no greater gift than seeing a child learn something for the first time!

I want to be a teacher because I love working with kids. It is so fun to see how much they have grown and learned throughout the year. I also love their love for learning and curiosity. I am excited to teach 1st grade this year!

Why do I teach?

john_popp1 — 2025-08-05 20:33:26 UTC

Teaching is far from glamorous but that is what makes it so powerful. It is hard. It is messy. And it matters deeply. Teaching lives in the deep end and that is exactly where I want to be. I truly believe a quality education can change a person’s life. Not only through future opportunities like college or career, but by offering the ability to pick up a book and escape into a different world, even when real life feels hard. I believe every child deserves a chance, no matter their background, behavior, or barriers

john_popp1 — 2025-08-05 20:33:26 UTC

I teach because I want to make a positive impact on students and my community. Life and learning are full of adventure and I want to inspire students to experience both!!!

I'm ALL IN for my students because they need someone in their corner who will help them learn, and be there for them, no matter what! I teach to help others grow, to learn from their mistakes and to be proud of themselves!

"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge."

ALBERT EINSTEIN

Every moment is a chance to inspire or deprive our students. We choose to show up as the best (or worst) versions of ourselves every day, and leave those life lessons with our students.

Life is hard. I am dedicated to fostering a positive and supportive environment for students, especially during challenging times. I aim to provide a welcoming presence and encouragement to help them navigate difficulties. If I can put a smile on one kids face a day, I’ve done my job.

I teach because I believe school can really change a kid’s life. Every student has something special in them, and I love helping them figure that out. I get to be someone they can count on, especially if things are tough at home. I enjoy being there for them, cheering them on, and watching them grow—not just in class, but as people. Seeing them face challenges and come out stronger is the best part. Teaching isn’t just a job to me—it’s what I’m meant to do. It lets me show up with heart and help kids believe in themselves.

Why I teach

I work at USD 428 because I enjoy giving kids the tools they need to be the best they can be. I believe every student can reach their goals with guidance and relationships no matter what they have been through.

My "why" is captured well by a quote from John Quincy Adams, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."

I am inspired by the students and staff in Great Bend, and I want to serve them and our community to the best of my ability.

I'm ALL IN as a storyteller for our kids! I want to celebrate the successes of our teachers and students, share their experiences, and build a positive narrative that reflects the heart of our schools. Each day is an opportunity to elevate their voices and remind both our staff and community of the transformative power of education.

Why I’m All In for Every Student, EveryDay!

2025-08-07 18:12:21 UTC

I’m all in for every student every day to provide an opportunity for all students to learn and become successful just like my teachers did for me and continue to pay it forward!

Why I’m All In

2025-08-07 18:36:15 UTC

Because music changes lives.

Because choir gives them a place to belong, to be heard, and to feel something real.

Because every kid deserves to know their voice matters!

My why

2025-08-08 08:23:46 UTC

I teach so I can be a safe person for all of my students. On an academic level, I love being a cheerleader for my students and seeing their attitude shift when they realize they can do something that they previously thought what’s impossible.

I work for the district with our kiddos who are deaf or hard of hearing. I love being in the classroom with them and all the other students. Just like I LOVE peanut buster parfaits! We have students who are the ice cream, who love being at school, participate in class and activities. The hot fudge students are sweet or maybe even a hot mess. Peanuts, well all have some kids who are a little nutty! We can't forget the cup and spoon, hard and maybe doesn't seem so exciting. When you put them all together they serve a purpose, and we get to experience exciting things getting done! I believe every kid is important! Sometimes you have to dive deeper for them to see that, but we never give up. Kids are awesome and I'm in my 30th year and love it even more than when I started!!
