The White Queen is a book written by Phillippa Greggory which was turned into a TV Series by the BBC. It is based around the time of the Wars of the Roses. The white queen was named Elizabeth Woodville, She was born around 1437 in Northhamptonshire and married at the age of 15 to Lancastrian Sir John Grey. He was killed in the Battle of St. Albans in 1461 and three years after his death, she married Yorkist King Edward IV. In the fourteen years they were married she gave birth to ten of his children. After the king had died, his brother Richard III took the throne and imprisoned her two sons in the tower and still to this day no one knows what happened to them. She died in1492 in Bermondsey Abbey. Her marriage to the King took place secretly, it is said to have taken place with only the bride's mother and two ladies in attendance at her family home in Northamptonshire on 1 May 1464, just over three years after he had taken the English throne after leading the Yorkists in an overwhelming victory over the Lancastrians at the Battle of Towton.

The Wars of the Roses were civil wars fought by members of the House of Lancaster and the House of York. Both houses descents of King Edward III. The rivalry between the house of York and the House of Lancaster started when his cousin, Henry Bolingbroke, Duke of Lancaster, overthrew King Richard II in 1399. But the Wars of the Roses actually began on May 22, 1455 with First Battle of St Albans when Richard, Duke of York and his ally, Richard, Earl of Warwick defeated the Lancastrians under Edmund Beaufort who was killed. York captured Henry VI.

The White Rose was the symbol of Yorkist supporters who opposed the rival House of Lancaster, whose symbol was the Red Rose of Lancaster. The opposition of the two parties symbolized by the red and white roses gave the wars their name - the Wars of the Roses. The Wars of the Roses ended with King Henry VII who started the Tudor dynasty and symbolically united the White and Red Roses to create the Tudor Rose.

I used my research to help me write the article for the Imperial War Museum's 'Effects of War' on The War of The Roses and The Real White Queen. I used the research to give me facts of the events that happened during this time and also talked about the TV show that was based of the events around this time and what the real White Queen was like and about her life. I used the timeline of events to depict what happened and when and talked about what Elizabeth Woodville was doing during this time, if she was a lie at that moment.
