This story has a way of connecting to the world because we see people getting shot and killed very often nowadays. In the Long Way Down we don't know why Shawn was killed but we do believe it was gang related. This relates to a shooting in downtown Windsor when a 20 year old male, was shot and killed. The news report explains that he did have connections in the Greater Toronto Area.

The Long Way Down relates to myself in a way where Will has lost an important family member and it takes a big toll on Will. Shawn was always there for Will, we know he would do anything for him. When someone had passed in my family I was angry and sad. It takes a toll on you because you may have talked to that family member everyday or seen them everyday. Long Way Down reminds me of the movie and books "The Hunger Games" In the book Hunger games Katniss Everdeen meets a friend named Rue. They end up becoming close friends then shortly after Rue passes away. This relates to Long Way Down because Shawn and Will who are brothers are very tight with each other.
